The way that fire and water damage jobs are handled do have some similarities, but they can’t be interchanged. On fire damage jobs, confirm that only techs with at least a Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT) certification are allowed on the site. Being Odor Control Technician (OCT) certified is also helpful. #DisasterRestoration

Proprietary vs. Non-Proprietary Fire Alarm Panels: My Take on Empowering Installers and Superior Service In the fire alarm industry, a longstanding debate surrounds the choice between proprietary and non-proprietary panels. As a seasoned technician, I've developed a strong preference for non-proprietary systems. While both types of systems have their merits, my hands-on experience has shown that non-proprietary panels often foster a competitive landscape where service quality truly shines. In some cases, proprietary systems can inadvertently disincentivize installers from providing top-notch service. They understand that even if their service falls short, customers are often tied to them for support due to the proprietary nature of the system. Non-proprietary panels, on the other hand, break this pattern. They encourage installers to consistently exceed expectations in order to earn and maintain service contracts. This competition ultimately benefits the end-user through improved service quality. Of course, this is simply my personal perspective, shaped by my years in the field. I deeply respect my fellow professionals across all brands and companies who share the common goal of keeping people safe. In my next post, I'll delve into the specific pros and cons of both systems to give you a more comprehensive understanding so you can make informed decisions. #FireAlarmSystems #FireProtection #LifeSafety #FacilityManagement #SmartBuildings #NonProprietary #Proprietary #IndustryInsights
