I'm carrying a vial of ascitic fluid from an alcoholic patient, ready for biochemistry, haematology, and microbiology analysis. 🧪👩🔬 Why Does This Matter in Healthcare? - Diagnosis & Treatment: Ascitic fluid analysis is essential for detecting liver cirrhosis, infections, and malignancies. This helps to adapt effective treatments for patients. - Biochemical Insights: Understanding the chemical composition of ascitic fluid might provide valuable information about a patient's liver function and overall health. - Microbiological Examination: Detecting the presence of any microbial agents ensures that infections are treated promptly and accurately. - Haematological Analysis: Measuring cell numbers and characteristics helps to diagnose underlying disorders and monitor patient health. As a Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist, Biomedical Scientist, and Healthcare Article Writer, I find my work extremely rewarding and effective. It's astounding how a single sample can reveal such detailed information about a patient's health. My Role in the Process: - Sample collecting: Use safe and sterile collecting techniques. - Analysis: Using advanced laboratory techniques to achieve accurate results. - Documentation: Carefully record and interpret results. - Communication: Sharing crucial information with the healthcare team to help guide patient care. Personal Experience: Holding this vial demonstrates the hands-on work we conduct every day. It is a combination of science, precision, and caring. The principal behind a CBC machine involves several automated processes that provide a comprehensive analysis of blood components. Here are the main steps involved: 1. Blood Sample Collection: A small sample of blood, usually obtained from a vein in the arm, is collected using a needle and syringe or a specialized blood collection tube. 2. Sample Preparation: The collected blood sample is processed to remove any clots or debris and to obtain a homogeneous suspension of blood cells. 3. Automated Analysis: The prepared blood sample is loaded into the CBC machine, which utilizes advanced technology to perform a series of measurements and calculations. The machine typically uses one or more of the following techniques: a. Coulter Principle: This principle involves the detection and measurement of changes in electrical impedance caused by the passage of blood cells through an aperture. Not to many people has an idea what it is to being a Account Manager for a Med tech company 🚑 It’s a privilege to work now for exactly 1️⃣5️⃣ years 🔛at some of the largest medical technology (and pharmaceutical) companies, in surgery, orthopedics, oncology, rheumatology and vascular surgery. 💊🩸🩺 Realized so many contacts, deepdive in healthcare and diseases, dozens of training sessions and university educations and a 🌍 personal development what is so much bigger now than the start.
