Congratulations to Cohort 2 of JCC Association's Bless Our Workforce Institute! Over the past five months, 26 managers from JCCs across the continent participated in learning sessions and reflective assignments equipping them with tools, strategies, and concepts to better motivate their teams. Drawing on insights from the book "Bless Our Workforce" by JCC Association's Mark S. Young, these managers are now well-positioned to cultivate a more engaging and fulfilling work environment, thereby bolstering employee satisfaction and productivity. Cohort member Aaron Fineberg, Assistant Director of Development for Individual Giving at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades reflected on his experience, sharing, "I have definitely become more patient and better at listening to my staff. Instead of always coming up with solutions [on my own], I have really tried to make [my saff] the primary focus." Mazel Tov to all the members of Cohort 2!

Exploring the determinants of motivation in the workplace and beyond presents a fascinating insight into human behavior. Understanding the blend of intrinsic and extrinsic factors that propel individuals towards achieving their goals offers invaluable perspectives for leaders and educators alike. Maslow's hierarchy of needs alongside Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory provides a framework for comprehensively addressing employee satisfaction and productivity. These theories underscore the importance of not only meeting the basic needs but also fostering an environment that promotes personal growth and recognizes achievements.

Psychological safety (in organizations) = "𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸-𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴."* From the book "Turnaround Artists," by Ahad Ghadimi: "Organizations with higher levels of psychological safety create a culture where employees feel comfortable and secure raising their concerns, contributing ideas, and sharing their unique perspectives. Psychological safety delivers critical business objectives including: > Enhancing employee engagement > Fostering an inclusive workplace culture > Inspiring creativity and innovation > Improving employee well-being > Reducing employee turnover > Boosting performance" (p. 30) If your company has culture that doesn't promote a 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲 level of psychological safety, then the loss of beneficial gains seems rather evident. *Harvard Organizational Behavioral Scientist, Dr. Amy Edmondson

Why is it important to create a culture of being able to have a voice in your team? The CIPD Good Work Index 2023 summary report and practical guidance indicate that there are conflicting views regarding the extent to which managers enable and encourage employee voice at work. While almost half of the respondents believe managers are good at keeping them informed about management discussions and decisions, a smaller number actually think that managers effectively seek out employee opinions. Creating a culture of being able to have a voice in your team is extremely important because it leads to higher levels of productivity AND job satisfaction. It also helps to create an environment encouraging innovation and creativity and a more inclusive and diverse workplace. "When a manager recognizes an employee’s behavior, personally and sincerely, both feel proud, gratified, and happy. There’s a human connection that transcends the immediate culture to create a shared bond. The power of this bond is stronger than you might think; indeed, it’s the power that holds together great organizational cultures.” Erik Mosley and Derek Irvine, co-authors of The Power of Thanks: How Social Recognition Empowers Employees and Creates a Best Place to Work For more information check the article and link below: The 48 Employee Recognition Statistics to Take Note of in 2023 https://lnkd.in/g_Pj_VFD #recognitionmatters
