Happy Womens day! Startups are hard for everyone, but I don't know if you realise how especially challenging it is for female founders. I've worked with some women lead startups and seen first hand how their gender makes them uninvestable. At the start of the week I've announced my initiative of office hours - free consultations for anyone (startups, SME's in particular) that needs help with their tech related needs. In the context of the International Women's Day I especially invite all female founders to get in touch! I will be happy to share my experience that is both tech and startup related. I hope that this small initiative can make a difference for all female founders. Girls, press on, it is your time to shine, don't let anyone stop you! #startups #internationalwomensday #founders #tech #scaling #cloud #smallbusiness #techstartups #women #femalefounders

Earlier this week, we launched our much awaited Women in India's Startups Ecosystem Report - WISER. Working on this report came from a deeply personal place for me. My youth and early professional life were spent dismissing the idea that gender had any role to play in my life choices or accomplishments. This last decade, however, changed that. As I invested time in listening to diverse women, in truly listening to myself, in learning from the various people, behaviors and policies that makes workplaces work (or not work!), I've come to believe that enabling India's #workplaces to become more #diverse and #inclusive can play an incredibly catalytic role in unleashing our talent and our potential as a nation. It was incredible to also see how personal, and promising, this journey became for everyone involved. Founders, HR leads and Employees from 200 startups, our incredible partners The Udaiti Foundation McKinsey & Company and LEAD at Krea University, Max India Foundation who stepped forward as our first anchor supporter, and various advisors, experts and friends who came together to rally around this report. India’s startups are showing an inherent advantage in their ability to attract, retain and promote women compared to traditional enterprises. Simply put, - they have more women overall (35% vs. 19% in corporates) - more women in diverse functions and roles of influence (like tech, sales and finance) - and most importantly, more women at the top (18% of Founders/CEOs and 21% of Directors/VPs in comparison to 5% and 15% respectively in corporates). While these numbers are encouraging, note that both unmanaged outcomes and a generational advantage play a role here. Moreover, startups are not immune to the #leakypipeline we see with women’s careers as they advance, especially as they approach their thirties. Just 10 years into their careers, we start seeing that 8 out of 10 men occupy Director-level positions or higher, compared to only 5 in 10 women. But if #India’s #startupecosystem consciously addresses these challenges and builds on its positive endowments, it has the potential to create over two million jobs for women by 2030. I hope you will give #WISER a read. Do let us know your feedback and thoughts. And please reach out if you'd like to play a part - in any capacity - to advance India's workplaces for women. While everyone knows about the revolutionary economic growth that Indian startups have brought about, did you know: - There are more women in senior roles at startups than corporates - Startups demonstrate lower barriers for women to occupy roles across all functions than corporates And while that's great, there's a whole lot more that needs to be done to advance gender equity and create a truly inclusive culture! We were among the 200 startups that participated in WISER 2023 (Women in India's Startup Ecosystem Report) by ACT Grants earlier this year and it compelled us to think about our values, culture and DNA. Give the report a read! #ACTForWomen #WISER2023 #NationalStartupDay #startup #genderdiversity

Thanks Withersworldwide for continuing to highlight the challenges for #femalefounders and #womenintech and allowing us to share some of our thoughts and solutions. Something I feel strongly about which is not just directed at women but all impact leaders in VC funded business…. ‘VCs have found it easier to manage, motivate and incentivise people driven by money but haven’t done the work to figure out how to operate in this new world of green innovation where intrinsic motivation is much more important….’ What do you think? Is this your experience too? How are your investors overcoming the issue of addressing intrinsically motivated teams? #ImpactInvestment #Culture

As a #startup founder, I participated in this first of its kind survey and the results are very interesting. # Women comprise 35% of the Startup Ecosystem as against 19% in corporate organisations. # Startups offer higher autonomy and faster career growth for women. # Startups with atleast one female founder have 2.5x more women in senior roles. # There is much work to be done, as at Director-level or higher postions 8 of 10 men occupy these as compared to 5 of 10 women. #startupecosystem #womeninbusiness #wiser2023
