This pep talk form Davina McCall will be the best thing you hear all week. - sit at the front - get started - just do it - reject the fear of failure and fear of judgement - have fun - it doesn’t matter if it’s different to the original plan I think we all need reminding of this, even if we left uni (many) years ago. I wish I heard this back then. 👌🏼👌🏼

I had this experience last week with a group of engineers in their new hire onboarding. Two men were the first to walk into the empty room and asked where they should sit. I said , “you chose- and I have a point of view…. You can chose to sit in the front row of your life, or further back. But it’s your choice!” They chose the front seat 😊and commented that they weren’t expecting such a deep question from the get go! As a facilitator, I love helping participants to deepen their thinking, experience and learning.

Hi James Wallis 👋 I need your help/advice. I'm based in Cardiff and have been trying to get into marketing for months! I come from a PR background but had to give up my job to look after a sick relative. Now I am unemployed and have been for months, believe me when I say I have emailed/cold-called every marketing agency in Cardiff and even in Bristol. I am sending emails every week, to the same agencies but don't even get a response. I even commented on an agency's post on here asking about any potential roles and they deleted my comment. All I'm asking for is to gain experience but just feels like I'm getting nowhere. Is there any chance we can have chat? Cheers - Benjamin

She said something between the lines that I fully agree with, "challenge yourself with passion!" If you dare to dream and do it in a big way, if you aim for the stars, maybe you will stumble because you do not see the small obstacles that you have on the road, but whatever the road is you will get to the top... and if you do not get there, you will surely have learned a lot about where not to put your feet. ;-)

We will never skip a Davina video! Such an inspiring talk 👏 She shared a little nugget in conversation with us around a message she says to her younger self! Well worth 30 seconds of your time, James! https://jaaq.org/creator/39684

I love 'sit at the front'. This reminds me of you Doris Xu, MBA, always at the forefront and being brave to put yourself out there!

Just start! That’s the best advice, more than sitting at the front. So many people study, learn new things, have great ideas but they don’t have the confidence or the courage to start. They think they need an impressive website, a completed business strategy, the perfect logo. No you don’t. You just need to start and people will follow you. I just booked a client and my calendar function didn’t work. I said, “sorry, I need to sort that” and she understood. Imagine if I waited until the calendar function worked? I wouldn’t have landed that new client. Just start! It doesn’t need to be perfect. 😊

She was brilliant from God’s Gift (1996) onwards . She shone immediately .

I often sit at the front! If I’m going to be somewhere - I’d like to engage and learn something! Happens better from the front!

Absolutely, that is excellent advice, and I fully support it. However, while listening, I couldn't help but think: "What if all the front seats are taken? Does sitting in the back mean missing out on opportunities?" My answer is a resounding NO! To complement the advice given, My perspective is that, regardless of where you find yourself in the room, aim to be the hardest worker there. Be ambitious and pursue your goals with determination. When it comes to being persistent, like a mosquito, remember to apply tact and incorporate humility while you persist. Your attitude and effort will stand out no matter where you sit. Opportunities are not limited by your physical position but by your mindset and work ethic. Dream big, work hard, and let your dedication and perseverance define you.
