🌐 Exciting News! 🚀 We're thrilled to announce our strategic rebranding initiative for First Street, aimed at enhancing accessibility to climate risk information. Our primary objective was to streamline the brand's aesthetic and messaging, making it effortlessly understandable to all. Here we offer a glimpse into the explorations our team took to help us arrive at a final brand identity system. Over 50 logos were explored before deciding the strongest way forward for First Street. To accomplish this, we've opted for a minimalist approach, stripping down First Street to its essence. This is beautifully complemented by a visually striking identity system, drawing inspiration from the recognizable square tile design of our Risk Factor tool. Moreover, our typography has been carefully selected to convey the precision and credibility inherent in climate science, ensuring that our commitment to data-driven insights shines through. And then there were two ..... And now, we're on Amherstburg time. Reminiscent of earlier times when clocks were a popular part of storefront advertising, the town has now not one, but two public clocks. Believe it or not, some of the first clocks that were invented in the renaissance period date as far back as 1270 - 1300. These clocks were found primarily from Germany to Northern Italy. While some of the early timepieces actually lacked "hands", they told the time by striking bells. They utilized suspended weights to move wheels and strike the bells. Fast forward to the 1800's, and most people determined the time by either a clock in the centre of town, railroads and or by the location of the sun. On November 18th, 1883, the railroads of North America set a standard time for all clocks. This was primarily done to address the danger of train accidents running on various timetables. In 1884, a conference in Greenwich managed to reach an agreement on Global Time. Industrialized America brought the clocks to the workplaces and as such, time micromanagement was in it's infancy. Fast forward to the 1900's, and the ever popular storefront signs were soon integrated with a timepiece. From there, the signs even went to neon for greater appeal. Clocks in town squares, outdoor signs clocks for jewellery stores, train stations, and more .... In our little town, Dan Gemus has fulfilled his vision for the clock at Richmond Centre which is for the most part, centrally located within the revitalized town district. Richmond Centre encompasses a plethora of businesses offering everything from fresh baked goods and popcorn, to the River Bookshop, legal services, tax preparation, banking, real estate services and more! In the current issue of Wallpaper*, Blue Green Works co-founder Peter B Staples is quoted saying: “Being unconstrained by the rules and dogma of design schools is exciting, though it can also present an engineering challenge. But the work I’m making has a simplicity and a purity to it. One constant in the collection is a very clear construction and simple use of materials. I enter what I do with an awareness of the rules, but also a disregard for it.” These sentiments resonate with me, despite his focus on lighting design and mine on public space and mobility. Where Staples’s background in cinematography and film theory influence his present work, my own own background in land use, housing, and community advocacy inform my approach to safe streets. It benefits our work when we transcend rigid professional paradigms and embrace the healthy challenge of balancing interconnected priorities. When we view streets not primarily as spaces to travel through but as spaces where people interact, where we develop tolerance and compassion for one another, we unlock streets’ greater potential to foster social cohesion. https://lnkd.in/gRHnnJtT

Turning into the neighborhood known as Prospect, past the pink Mayan home, the familiar American Farmhouse, the twisted, rubix cube-style home, then into the commercial district, Studio Six is located across from the Jack Kerouac deco-style gas station featured in “On the Road.” Feeling perfectly at home on Neon Forest Circle, this design and branding agency shares a common belief that the neighborhood seems to embody–break the rules and do so boldly, elegantly, tastefully, but break the rules. Prospect was named the “Coolest Neighborhood in the Country” by Dwell Magazine and the residents and business owners embrace the eclectic architecture, bold vivid color, modern style and a lack of conformity. Upon entering Studio Six, a similar vibe seems to emerge. Unafraid of color, the office is filled with the unexpected. A giant flying frog leaps across the conference room wall accompanied by the questions “Why do buses have to be so boring? Why can’t riding the bus be fun? How do we get people out of their cars to reduce congestion, pollution and frustration?” On oversized monitors throughout the space, the answers to these questions become tangible. Modern fleets, minimal signage, colorful maps and social media campaigns fill the screens and cover the walls with one single goal—to shift the perception of public transportation. The driver behind the vision is a passionate designer with a mid-western work-ethic, Traci Jones, and a team of talented, disciplined creatives—designers, photographers, programmers, illustrators, and one obsessive proofreader.
