From the article: Psychosocial interventions were associated with significant reductions in the severity of suicidal ideation severity and the incidence of suicide attempts. The observed effect sizes were similar for direct interventions (ie, those specifically targeting suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts) and indirect interventions (ie, those targeting other mental health problems). Suicide prevention strategies could make more use of indirect treatments as a strategy to get effective interventions to people who would not be likely to seek treatment for suicidal ideation or self-harm.
This meta-analysis found that both direct and indirect psychotherapy interventions led to significant reductions in suicidal ideation and suicide attempts.

🔍 Open-letter Addressing Methodological Concerns in Psilocybin-assisted Therapy Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
We are eager to share an open-letter that was previously addressed to the editor of JAMA Open-Network, offering a detailed response to the systematic review and meta-analysis by Yerubandi and colleagues (2024) on the acute adverse effects of psilocybin in treating depression and anxiety.
Key Points of Our Preprint:
* Methodological Concerns: Our letter identifies significant issues with the risk of bias assessment, particularly concerning the lack of functional blinding in many included studies.
* Temporal Limitations: We highlight the need for a more comprehensive evaluation of adverse effects beyond the 24-hour window used in the review.
* Serious Adverse Events: Our investigation into this study suggests that a longer follow-up period is necessary to fully understand the risk profile of psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy, with multiple serious adverse events not considered within their review.
Implications:
With the increasing interest in psychedelic-assisted therapies, it is crucial to critically assess the safety and efficacy of these treatments. Our preprint aims to bring attention to the need for a more nuanced approach to ensure informed decision-making in clinical practice. Bursting the “hype-bubble” is important for the future of psychedelic science.

Last week was a momentous one for Associate Professor Vanessa Beesley and her team who treated their first participant in the Psilocybin-Assisted suppoRtive psychoTherapy IN the treatment of prolonged Grief (#PARTING) trial.
The PARTING Trial aims to assess #psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy as an experimental intervention for people living with prolonged grief.
The trial is one of the world’s first psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy trials for prolonged #grief disorder, and the first human trial in Queensland involving #psilocybin.
