I'm back from 2 weeks travelling at Web3 conferences - between NFT Paris and ETH Denver. Here are 3 takeaways on NFT Paris : 𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 Coming out of the bear market, the people that are left are the people that stuck around despite the market downturn. These are the people who believe in the tech, are active in communities, contribute to the culture and build the use cases of tomorrow. There isn't a better time to grow the network. 𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝟯 𝗜𝗣 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 Web3 Brands like Doodles, Chimpers, Pudgy Penguins, Cool Cats are growing IP fuelled by thousands of advocates. I am confident some of them will become worldwide phenomenons, further propagated by technological innovation in the same way Mario or Pokemon were born in the video game niche and became some of the world's most valuable IPs. For reference, Pokemon is worth $92m, almost twice as much as Marvel! 𝟯. 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 Artists keep creating, and although there up and downs, collectors keep collecting. Less than a month ago, a set of Autoglyphs by Larva Labs sold for $14.5m and I am personally convinced that Digital Art will become a major art movement of the 21st Century. Institutions are starting to show interest and some fund managers like Jean-Michel Pailhon believe it could become a $1 Trillion asset class by 2030. __ Thank you Alexandre Tsydenkov, Côme Prost-Boucle and team for this event. All three of these points 💯 What I also saw was brands adopting the values and tech but leaving the lingo to the natives. A lot of top agencies and brands discussed how understanding the CX/BX frictions, as opposed to offering things people didn't understand, truly was the way to make a meaningful difference. And their research approaches shifted to maximise genuine value exchange and insights. I loved hearing this from some of the premium & luxury brands giving talks, it's simple, obvious, hard to do in a big agency machine, but so effective for creative opportunities and meaningful brand experience elevations. This attitude and approach benefits brands, consumers, fans and communities. As the focus is truly pure and true. It's easy to dismiss something new and disruptive, it's exciting to learn and apply it in a way that elevates the goals and visions you have. I'm on this continual learning journey and loving it. And for those with open minds too, exciting times are ahead 🔥 Someone asked me today if legacy agencies will truly be leaving a legacy if they don't change? And will new world media be the fun disruptor we need for fresh creativity? I believe they will, and yes it will. Creativity will always win, and the world is painting a new canvas for it. ✨It's true what they say: one year in #web3 feels like seven years in real life.✨ Last year, I attended the first #w3vision 💯 by w3.fund at the DMEXCO - Digital Marketing Expo & Conference in Cologne, an these two days were truly all: Keeping up to date with where web3 is headed and its most valuable #usecases, and becoming part of a growing #community of web3 ambassadors and top #experts in this field. 💡 What I only realized long afterwards was: that most of what I know today, how I see and evaluate current web3 developments, how I advise my art market clients, the educational path I have pursued since, my ever-expanding network, and the majority of the projects and communities I have either initiated or joined since then, can all be connected back to those two days in Cologne last year in some way. 🙏A huge thank you to Victoria Klich, Henrik Bredenbals and the entire w3.fund team for their incredible ambition, to provide the industry and web3 community with yet another fantastic platform that allows all of us to grow 🚀 and build 💪 . The strategy for attending #TOKEN2049 this time was to visit various companies at the event and understand the trends in the Asian market. Here are some insights and observations to share with everyone, and I will appreciate if you have any opinions and discussions: 1. Web3 in Asia is gaining recognition: - Approximately 10% of the exhibitors were from Europe and the United States, and TOKEN 2049 marked their first visit to Asia. - Most of them were B2B infrastructure companies who noticed that many of their clients originated from Asia. Their inaugural experience in Asia was eye-opening, revealing the high enthusiasm for the web3 industry in the Asian market. 2. Everyone is eager for new narratives, but compliance is the current focus: - There is an anticipation for the emergence of a compelling narrative. Phrases like "ZK" are trending, but during this event, more companies were engaged in the development of wallets and payment solutions. - Safety, compliance, and licensing were emphasized by many. It's clear that regulatory compliance is an inevitable trend for the future. - Leading up to TOKEN, #Metamask launched new off-ramp solutions. The industry has shifted from thriving solely in the web3 world during bull markets to focusing more on practical solutions. The aim is to make it seamless for users to experience the value and benefits of this technology. 3. Regulation knows no boundaries between centralized and decentralized: - Regulation and KYC (Know Your Customer) aren't just practices for centralized exchanges. An increasing number of DeFi projects are adopting Sumsub KYC systems. - With the trend of Real World Asset Tokenization (RAW), future government regulations may also extend to DeFi projects. 4. Funds are on vacation: - Most VCs attended the event for networking with industry peers. Some companies even skip this time. Both project teams and VCs are patiently awaiting the right timing to return. 5. GameFi is returning to gaming: - In April, the Hong Kong Web Festival featured numerous NFT and GameFi projects. In June, IVS Kyoto showcased a plethora of NFT IP projects. - However, during TOKEN 2049, the focus was primarily on established GameFi projects. New projects seem to be conservatively waiting until 2024 for game launches and token . This business trip to Singapore was very rewarding.
