Last week while attending the Food Shippers of America annual conference, Why Logistics CEO Erik Holck, MBA and COO Jeff Braun, CTB met with customers, carriers, warehouse operators, competitors and other key parts of the logistics community. Here are some of their key takeaways. 1. The freight market will recover this year, it’s just a question of when – Carrier capacity has been reduced through trucking companies shutting down or beginning to sell equipment to right size their fleets.  This capacity right sizing is expected continue through the early part of this year. How quickly the recovery happens and when freight volumes pickup will determine the timing of rates beginning to climb. 2. Shippers are focusing their time on optimizing their operations – Whether this is replacing underperforming partners, right sizing their inventories or focusing their time on key partner relationships, shippers are working hard to get it right. 3. Perseverance is the key to being successful in the logistics industry – in his opening keynote, Cal Ripken Jr. shared what he believes led to his success in becoming baseball’s “Iron Man”. Through many conversations with industry peers, all of those key traits translate to what’s required on a daily basis in being successful in the logistics industry.
