GSWA generates geochemical data from samples collected as part of mapping and mineralisation programs. You can access whole of WA geochemistry data for free via GeoVIEW.WA in three simple steps: https://lnkd.in/gS7hQUwS 1. Navigate to "Search" from the GeoVIEW.WA toolbar 2. Choose the "GSWA Search" option under the Geochemistry tab 3. Select "Download GSWA Geochemistry data for entire state" This dataset can also be accessed through the Geochemistry & Mineralogy layer. #GSWAData

Am I right? I think I figured out Module 6 Challenge Problem, which was the use of PHREEQC hydrogeology and geochemistry simulation to monitor the outcome of K-Feldspar and Albite in groundwater. The water had sodium chloride and the earth had various ions and minerals. I think I am right after 2.5 days of work, but I am waiting for Dr. McNab to verify. The simulation involved kinetics, rates, and advection. It was a challenge problem. As you can see, K-Feldspar dissolves and approaches equilibrium of 520,000 years, and Albite dissolves and approaches equilibrium over 520,000 years. The pH lowers to a slightly acidic value. I believe the Albite precipitates because K-Feldspar dissolves, and there is extra sodium in the water. I will see what Dr. McNab says. I am interested in learning PHREECQ because I can model ex-situ CO2 mineralization like the UCLA and Equatic system, enhanced weathering to remove CO2, Soil Carbon, etc. What will I do with the studies, post on here for your consumption. #Geology #Hydrogeology #Geochemistry #ChemicalEngineering #FriendOfMIT #FriendOfJohnHopkinsUniversity #RetiredLife

Join PetroTeach Free webinar on CO2 Storage by Dr. Babak MORADI (PhD, DBA)! To achieve net-zero emissions in the energy transition, it is crucial to implement practices of carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS). Geological formations, such as depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs and saline aquifers, are the most promising targets for the permanent storage of CO2 due to the existing technology, skills, and infrastructure in the petroleum industry. Furthermore, these formations have vast reservoir pore volumes that are distributed across the globe. The upcoming Webinar serves as a comprehensive introduction to the main course and aims to cover the fundamentals of Energy Transition and Underground Carbon Storage. Through this session, you will gain valuable insights into the concepts, principles, and key aspects of these critical topics, providing you with a solid foundation for further learning and exploration. New Insights into Deepwater Lithofacies and Paleoredox Conditions! We are thrilled to highlight a paper co-authored by Dr. Humberto Carvajal-Ortiz, titled: “Paleoredox and Lithofacies Assessments in Deepwater Intervals of the Monterey Formation, Santa Maria Basin, California: Insights from Organic Sulfur Geochemistry.” Key Highlights: - A novel sulfur-based proxy for distinguishing between siliceous and calcareous rocks, crucial for understanding reservoir quality. - Discovery of persistent euxinic conditions (low oxygen environments) throughout the Monterey Formation, challenging previous seasonal anoxia models. - Another application of the Sulfur Index (SI), introduced in Carvajal-Ortiz et al. (2021)—a faster, more cost-effective tool for paleoredox assessments, surpassing traditional methods. Why it matters: This study offers new tools for oil-to-source rock correlation in deepwater environments and redefines how we assess organic matter preservation. It also opens up new possibilities for geochemical workflows in reservoir characterization. If you are curious about how organic sulfur influences petroleum generation or want to explore cutting-edge geochemical methodologies, dive into the full paper: https://lnkd.in/e7yt9KTb #Geology #Geochemistry #ReservoirCharacterization #DeepwaterExploration #OilAndGas #OrganicSulfur #Paleoredox #PetroleumGeneration #MontereyFormation #EnergyResearch #ScientificInnovation #GeologicalInsights #ReservoirQuality #SantaMariaBasin #GeochemicalAnalysis #EnvironmentalGeochemistry #EnergyIndustry #OilandGas #Onshore #Offshore #California #USA
