The Simple Secret to Innovation: Simplicity We're all so caught up in chasing the newest, flashiest things that we often forget one basic truth: simplicity is the key to real innovation. It's funny because our competitors are doing the same thing. They're ignoring the fundamental stuff because it seems too obvious or easy. Everyone's so focused on outdoing each other with complicated ideas that they've forgotten the power of nailing the basics. Get this: I just heard about a company that, even in 2024, hired a full-time Butler. Yeah, you read that right. This person's entire job is to make guests feel so pampered and special that they'll be blown away. Talk about going above and beyond in the simplest way possible! So, here's my suggestion: take a step back and chill out for a minute. Ask yourself, what are the no-brainer, essential things you're not doing? Start there. Trust me, it'll give you the best foundation for coming up with truly innovative ideas. In a world where everyone's trying to be the most complex and cutting-edge, sometimes the smartest thing you can do is strip things down to their core. Master the fundamentals, and you'll be amazed at how it sets you up for real, long-lasting innovation. So, let's give a shout-out to simplicity - the unsung hero of innovation. Don't underestimate it just because it seems too easy. Embrace it, and watch as it helps you unlock the game-changing ideas you've been searching for all along.

Today we had the pleasure to have Elvin Turner with us for an engaging discussion about INNOVATION FOR REALISTS. Elvin has a really practical way to look at Innovation, its roadblocks and what can be realistically done to address them. My favorite take aways: ⏰ MAKE TIME YOUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. Deliberately look for ways to remove un-necessary activities and spend time to dedicate to novel solutions to address problems --- 👩🔬 Use EXPERIMENTS to create data which can make people more confident to move on with the next step --- 🗯 From "We cant`t because..." do "We can if..." --- ▪ ▫ ◽ ◾ Use the concept of Minimum Viable Product (MVP) beyond a product/service (e.g. how hour Min Valuable Meeting should look like?...) --- 📢 Be the PR Agent for your idea, even if this means letting someone else to pitch it

Great post from the always insightful Paul Roberts. Client voice can unblock the innovation challenge: nothing motivates leaders as much as their clients asking for change. Yes, it needs positioning, but using outcome focused questions such as "how would you know if [your provider] got this right?" and "What would be the impact of that [innovation] on your business?" brings a future-back approach which can diminish perceived hurdles.

On the second day of Continuous Innovation... Love the Problem, Not Your Solution. The top reason why products fail is that we spend needless time, money, and effort building something nobody wants. I attribute this to the Innovator's Bias -- aka premature love for their solution. But customers don’t care about solutions. They care about their problems. Problems, not solutions, create spaces for innovation. When you start with a solution, it’s like building a key without a door. You then have to face the hard work of figuring out what door to open. This is the classic solution looking for a problem challenge. Even if you start with a smaller solution (like a minimum viable product), unless your solution nails some customer problem, it won’t get noticed. And then the build trap ensues. This is where you end up chasing the mythical killer feature by trying out one thing after another. Sure, you could get lucky and hit an accidental breakthrough this way. But this approach is sub-optimal. A better alternative is switching perspectives. When you start with problems before solutions, you identify the door you want to open. Key building, or solution building, becomes a lot easier after that.
