During Black History Month, we must think deeply about the role of the Black church as one of the few remaining anchor institutions in the Black community. Considering the impacts of the #climatecrisis, the Black church can lead on this issue. 📽 Watch our exclusive short video on how "Philanthropy and the Black Church" can take the lead on climate crisis response for the marginalized. As Rev. Jon Robinson, Smart Surfaces Coalition & Metropolitan AME Church Sr. Program Director notes: "The reason these communities are in the situation that they're in is because of public policy." So: how do we begin to reverse and dismantle that public policy? 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eNCvsY7v

We are still fighting for freedom, regardless of being “given” a day. Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a significant day in American history marking the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news that the Civil War had ended and enslaved people were now free. This was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Recognizing Juneteenth is more than just acknowledging a date; it’s about honoring the struggles and achievements of Black Americans, reflecting on our history, and committing to actions that promote equality and justice. As businesses and individuals, we have the power and responsibility to show up for Black communities. One impactful way to do this is by supporting nonprofits that are dedicated to expanding their reach and helping those who are disenfranchised. Organizations like Fearless Fund, Colorful Connections, and more are on the front lines, working tirelessly to create opportunities and provide resources to those in need. By donating to these nonprofits, we can help amplify their efforts in areas such as education, economic empowerment, health care, and criminal justice reform. Your support can make a real difference in building a more equitable society. Let’s use this Juneteenth to not only celebrate but also to take meaningful action. Together, we can foster a future where freedom and equality are truly realized for all. Communities of color understand the enduring impact of colonization, which continues to present itself to this day. There’s a growing call for solidarity between Black and Indigenous peoples, rooted in the shared historical injustices inflicted upon each of our ancestors. Reparations are one key solution. Indigenous and Black reparations cannot be mutually exclusive. They must be crafted and achieved together to ensure that systemic change is equitable and achievable for everyone involved. In celebration of the liberation of Juneteenth, let’s come together to discuss the next steps regarding reparations and the role of philanthropy in this endeavor. Whether you're new to this conversation or deeply engaged in its nuances, we invite you to stand with us in solidarity as we center the power of each community respectively and the sheer force of both combined. In a celebration of solidarity and liberation, June’s session shares this platform with our partners @ABFE. ABFE is central to a movement of philanthropic entities, donors, and nonprofits to improve outcomes for Black communities and the country. Their mission has prioritized Black communities through their professional development and technical assistance, and they are an unwavering voice highlighting the urgency of diversity, equity, and inclusion in philanthropy. Tune in for our upcoming “Member Education Sessions: Regarding Reparations” on June 18 at 1 PM ET.
