New piece in Philanthropy News Digest on the new Funding Guide on Faith and Democracy from Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement (PACE)! Here's a quote: "It would be difficult to imagine scaling a pro-democracy movement without engaging America’s faith communities, given that half of philanthropy and volunteering is done in religious contexts. Faith spaces are often where compassionate social and political movements begin." Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gF-YEDZc

Executive Consultant: Strategic Planning & Execution | Data & Learning | Organizational Change | Results ▪ Philanthropy | Nonprofit | Higher Ed | Public Sector ▪
For foundations that have been claiming a focus on racial equity: “Grant makers need to draw a clear line between inoculating themselves against attack and giving up at the first serious challenge… The most important question to ask isn’t “How can we protect ourselves?” but “What are our values?”…” Thanks to Jessica Mindnich, Ph.D. for elevating this important piece.

"Volunteering on a local nonprofit board has changed my perspective on some things I used to say with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY, and with a microphone. As an example: 'The federated model is inefficient. All organizations are on the path to single corp, without exception.' Here’s where the federated model works brilliantly. Because the national organization is protected by a separate 501c3, they don’t mess with us. We do all sorts of things that I know, for sure, would be shot down by a rigid structure. Example: we run a thrift store. When I first heard about this, my single-corporation heart fell. I thought, 'Oh no, so much energy to make so little money with no mission connection.' How wrong could I be? Very wrong." Read our latest blog here: https://lnkd.in/geAdE79p #nonprofit #volunteers #community #strategicplanning

Philanthropy has a huge opportunity—and responsibility—to build a culture of repair both inside and outside their organizations. What would it look like for #philanthropy to advance the work of #reparations? In our Stanford Social Innovation Review article "A Reparations Roadmap for Philanthropy" (📄 https://lnkd.in/gQR4QvFm) with Liberation Ventures, we share the core components of 🔁repair: - reckoning - acknowledgement - accountability - redress But what does it look like and where should funders start? We're excited to share a new report from National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy, "Cracks in the Foundation: Philanthropy’s Role in Reparations for Black People in the DMV," which delves into repairing, healing, and restoring communities affected by charitable wealth origins. It provides a framework for #foundations to not only understand their past, but how they may start acknowledging and addressing these harms with community residents. This report, initially focusing on the DMV, offers a model for cities and regions everywhere. It's time for bold action and essential work. 📄 Visit https://lnkd.in/eTp27-sJ to access the report and be part of the change! #RacialJustice

#thrilled. Hundreds of nonprofits. Thousands of nonprofit professionals. As I pause to consider the incredible journey of Merit Nonprofit Professional Development, one thing truly stands out: the incredible impact we've been able to support within the nonprofit community. As the Nonprofit Help Center & Merit® Nonprofit Professional Development team and I have grown our work, we've always had one simple goal: to provide equitable access to quality professional development for nonprofit professionals and organizations. Today, I'm humbled and proud to share that Merit® supports over 330 nonprofit teams and counting. Each of these nonprofits represents a unique mission, a vision for a better world, and leverages dedicated individuals working tirelessly to make it happen. From the client-supporting learners who squeeze in their learning from their phones while on-site to the team leads who integrate Merit® learning paths into team member year-round performance enhancement...from the passionate individuals pursuing our Certificate in Nonprofit Capacity Building program to the entire boards enrolling in our Nonprofit Board Member Basics course: It's an honor to be part of their growth. Our journey is far from over, and there's still much work to be done. But together, we're building a stronger nonprofit sector, one learner, one team, one coalition at a time. Thank you to all who have joined us on this mission, and here's to the exciting chapters yet to come. 📚🤝 #NonprofitImpact #ProfessionalDevelopment #capacitybuilding #nonprofitaf #nonprofitleadership
🌟 Here we grow again! 🌟 We're thrilled to give a warm welcome to newest members of the Nonprofit Help Center & Merit® Nonprofit Professional Development family: the dedicated teams at Child Advocacy Centers of Texas and at New York State Children's Alliance. 🤝 Thank you for believing in the power of professional development and joining us in pursuing our passion for strengthening the nonprofit sector. These two coalitions join our other fresh family members: Louisiana Child Advocacy Centers, Child Advocacy Centers of North Carolina, and the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, all of whom joined Merit® last month. With their arrival, our Merit platform now supports over 330 nonprofit teams! Together, we're making strides towards a stronger, more impactful nonprofit world. 💪 #Nonprofits #ProfessionalDevelopment #capacitybuilding #impact #lifelonglearning
