Castlegate and Harmony Works are where Sheffield began: the meeting of the Don and the Sheaf. These two projects are, in no small part, the result of a decade-long collaboration between the The University of Sheffield and Sheffield City Council to turn the city’s ancient past into a reimagined future. In particular its schools of Architecture and Music alongside the indefatigable Professa Vanessa. That it will become a reality in 2025 — just a year away — seems almost more difficult to imagine. What should not be forgotten, however, is that none of these schemes would have been possible without a Conservative Government under Boris Johnson putting billions behind his levelling up and the high street rejuvenation agendas. Much derided by our intellectual elite, these two policies are helping reshape, largely for the better, the heart and soul of our once vibrant cities. Universities and councils who are the beneficiaries of these policies should be sufficiently generous to acknowledge it in all their public and private communications. When the EU funded such schemes back in the with recycled UK taxes, recipients of ERDF had to agree to give full prominence to this. Castlegate and Harmony Hill, much as it may pain some to say it, is one of Boris Johnson’s lasting legacies.
Sheffield is building a new riverside park that will bring the outdoors into the heart of the Outdoor City. Work has started to transform the former Castle Market site in Castlegate into a fantastic new public space. Castlegate is one of the oldest parts of Sheffield with a rich cultural history and is where the river Sheaf and the river Don meet. The new park will reveal part of Sheffield’s medieval castle, include a new events area, and open up the River Sheaf with new public art that will showcase the history of the site. It will also provide a spectacular focal point for the Castlegate Quarter, an emerging city centre neighbourhood that will include substantial new mixed-use development comprising offices, homes, leisure, entertainment, and retail uses. The completion of the park is due in the summer of 2025, and I can’t wait for it to open!

Is Manchester entering a new golden age? 🌆 It seems now is an excellent time to be a Mancunian! From groundbreaking developments to the vibrant spirit of our community, it feels like once again, Manchester is on the cusp of something extraordinary! The city has already witnessed the launch of several transformative projects, including the ambitious Town Hall restoration and the game-changing Mayfield regeneration. 🏗️ The commitment to preserving our rich history while embracing modernity is what makes Manchester exceptional. It's great to see the incredible vision of leaders like Beverley Craig, who recently outlined plans for the next 10-15 years, promising to redefine the cityscape. The focus on sustainability, innovation, and community engagement is exactly what we need to ensure a bright and inclusive future for all. In 2024 alone, there are some inspiring projects completing and starting, including: – The 241.5m tall Regent Park – The second phase of Viadux – Viadux 2a which will be set at 76 storeys, as well as the 213m tall Plot D – First Street's £400m, 45 storey development If you’d like a more comprehensive deep dive into the growth and pipeline for Manchester, please read the recently published Manchester crane survey by Deloitte (shoutout to the excellent John Cooper and his team), which provides a detailed overview of the city’s growth and development! It's also great to see the regeneration of Piccadilly Gardens finally kicking off. For a place right in the heart of our city centre, it's required a much-needed facelift for some time. It's an incredibly exciting time for our city and I can't wait to witness the progress over the next few years. #property #manchester #development #realestate

I am humbled and extremely excited to announce that the City of Philadelphia selected Frontier Development & Hospitality Group and our partner National Real Estate Development to develop a large-scale 850,000 square foot mixed-use project on Ben Franklin Parkway. The project will entail the adaptive reuse of the 250,000 sf historic Family Court building at 1801 Vine Street to a 215-key lifestyle hotel with multiple F&B outlets and event space; At 1901 Wood Street, we will develop a 600 unit high rise mixed-use apartment building inclusive of affordable units (as seen on the left of the rendering below), associated retail, while we will also develop the new state-of-the art African American Museum of Philadelphia, and the expansion of the Philadelphia Library's Children and Family center. Exciting times at Frontier. https://lnkd.in/e7srWG_j

We aim to change people's thinking, and people's lives. (Check out our little piece in this video.)
Recently 'The Commercial Project' – a branch of The Local Project that lends a focus on multi-residential building living, visited our Brunswick store, to chat with Kirra Johnson and Silas Bennett about the overlap in values and approach, that led to opening the door for Good Cycles to take up residency on the ground level of the Nightingale Housing's Evergreen building. We are grateful to be included in this superbly produced featurette. To watch the full video, visit our blog here: https://lnkd.in/ga7RiWin

Mezzanines, developing up – and down into basements – are all innovative possibilities that would support the creation of industrial and commercial space in ultra-urban areas, a panel of experts told the LAST MILE conference. Delegates at the ‘Making it fit for purpose’ discussion heard how London continues to lose industrial space and that there were challenges in constructing facilities in residential areas – but that “adaptability and flexibility” were key. Great places come from: - Creativity - Collaboration - Looking to others - Learning from others. Placemaking is not a one-person job. It’s not something you can do alone. It takes partnership. That’s why we will always champion the importance of partnership and collaboration for the benefit of the West End and beyond. Do we have our own vision for London and the nation? Of course. But it’s one that involves bringing our peers and partners along with us. And, it’s informed and inspired by looking at how other incredible cities around the world are changing for the better, before thinking about how we can achieve similar things. Two partnerships I’ve been particularly proud of last year: - Our work with Westminster City Council developing a long-term vision for Regent Street, and with Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and The Royal Parks to restore the spine between St James’s and The Regent’s Park (a personal passion of mine) - Our collaborative report with National Trust, Peabody, Historic England, and Grosvenor designed to help address the UK skills gap in the area of heritage retrofit, boost the economy and support its net zero future. Here’s to many more placemaking partnerships. #placemaking #partnerships #westend
