We discuss the recent case of a former childcare worker sexually assaulting young children. In this podcast episode, Alanna and Chandra dive deep into why the safety of children must be our number one priority. They are our next generation. Chandra and I discuss what we consider a catastrophic failure of systems when Former childcare worker from Gold Coast was charged with more than 1,600 child sex offences. We talk about the systemic failures, a culture of speaking up and the standard we walk past. If we rely on one process to be our safe guard, is it the right standard? Where is the equivalent in our business for walking past the signs OR even worse, ignoring our gut instinct when things just didn’t feel right! 🎙️ Tune in to discover why child safety should be at the forefront. Should you speed up or slow down as you approach your parental leave? Most people assume you should slow down: wind down projects, hand over responsibilities early, take it easy. But for many folks - they want to speed up. Case in point: Emily Calandrelli landed a Netflix show while 9 months pregnant, and she was given the choice to film before or after her baby arrived. She chose before. So over the course of two weeks, while 36 weeks pregnant, she filmed Emily’s Wonder Lab. Why not wait? Why not take it easy leading into motherhood? “This is my first Netflix show. I can’t wait. It’s one of those dream events that you cannot miss out on. I would move heaven and earth to have done this show.” Check out the latest The False Tradeoff episode to hear more about all things The Space Gal, taking parental leave as a contractor or solopreneur, and why Emily cares so much about advocating for improved parental leave policies in the aerospace industry!

A little too real 😂 Still, it's quite rare to see #ChildCare problems portrayed on TV. And we've got the stats to back it up. Our new report with the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media analyzed all scripted TV programs from 2022 with a mom in the title cast. When it comes to child care on TV, we found that only about 1 in 5 of TV parents of young kids had any child care in their storylines. Parents of young kids, how much of your days do you spend thinking about or coordinating child care? Probably A LOT. In fact, 85% of primary caregivers in the U.S. report that their focus at work and commitment to work are negatively affected due to challenges with child care. We're not saying every single TV storyline involving a mom has to be about child care. But it would be nice if more TV writers integrated the problems facing moms today into storylines. Popular media plays a powerful role in shaping social norms and our expectations, which in turn can impact public policies such as the need for affordable child care and paid family leave in the U.S. Changing public policy starts often with changing our culture. Join us March 20th @ 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET for a virtual salon event discussing our findings with Geena Davis, Reshma Saujani, New America's Vicki Shabo, and Dr. Anna Malaika Tubbs: https://lnkd.in/e3ZJCWdU Read the full #RewritingMotherhood report here: https://lnkd.in/e3ZJCWdU
