The latest radio segment I did on "4BC Afternoons with Sofie Formica" is now available on my website in the Radio Shows section under the Media Library. Just scroll down to "2024-01-22 - 4BC Brisbane" on the web page. The show aired "live" on January 22nd in Brisbane, Australia (Sunday the 21st in the U.S.), and we discussed the following: - Gov. DeSantis' decision to suspend his presidential campaign, - Former Gov. Haley's chances in her head-to-head competition with former President Trump, - The impact of the former President's ongoing legal challenges, - Strategies that might be in play when considering the potential Republican running mate, - The Democratic presidential ticket, and - Outside challengers. Other recent shows are also available, including those with 4BC Brisbane's famous "Radio Host Emeritus," Greg Cary (2023-12-27 and 2024-12-28). 4BC Brisbane's hosts and audiences are acutely aware of U.S. politics and keen on following its direction. I can only hope that U.S. citizens take our elections as seriously as our Australian friends and are similarly inspired to stay informed. #presidentialelection #presidential #politics #politicalcampaigns #president #vicepresident #selection #strategies

ITV to host Starmer-Sunak election debate "ITV has announced that the first head-to-head General Election debate between Rishi Sunak, leader of the Conservative Party, and Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, will take place on ITV1, ITVX and STV and STV Player on June 4th at 9pm." As European Broadcasting Union (EBU) can attest from last week with the #eurovisiondebate debates, they can be very enlightening, and actually draw in a lot of interest from the public. While politics can seem a dry subject to the general public, when elections come about, I believe the facts bare out that the public IS interested in who will govern them. People who aren't usually tuned in to politics suddenly become more attuned when elections have been called/scheduled. "The hour-long debate, Sunak v Starmer: The ITV Debate, will be moderated by Julie Etchingham. It will take place live in front of a studio audience and will be made and produced by MultiStory Media, part of ITV Studios. Etchingham moderated General Election debates in 2015, 2017 and 2019." It's another moment of Live TV and the irreplaceable nature of #livecontent Yes, people want convenience when it comes to entertainment and want SVOD, but when it's current, when it's a chance to see what will make the news, when it's a chance to see news made in real time, people come to #livetv "ITV plans to broadcast additional programming including an interview programme with other party leaders and a multi-party debate. Details on the further programmes will be announced shortly." Of the format, I think it's not a good idea to separate the two debates. While in the UK, the electoral system means that it's most likely the Conservatives or Labour will form the next government, it may yet end in a hung parliament, and then the Liberal Democrats, the Greens or the SNP could be key if Labour are the largest party and the same thing for the Conservatives if they are the largest party and Reform could be key. It would be better to allow everyone on the stage to debate, because the second debate of the other candidates will clearly be less appealing and not get as many eyeballs and ratings. I'm sure this is out of ITV's hands, its the political parties setting their terms. #television #elections #ukelections #itvdebates #politics #politicaldebates

An interesting article which provides some valuable insight into the stats behind the election results. One thing I wonder is whether a modern trend is the lack of allegiance we have today toward a particular political party. As a child, certain families/professions/regions always voted for a certain party. Regardless of leader, record or manifesto. A bit like in the US where you’re either republican or democrat. Yet the last two elections have shown massive swings: 2019 to the Conservatives and 2024 to Labour. I was reading that Oxfordshire for the first time have no Tory MPs. More and more people just seem to want a change. Does this mean the political parties can no longer rely on their traditional support? Will politicians have to work harder in future to secure votes, rather than rely on the traditional views? What does this say about our first past the post system? Strong Government versus what incentive is there for people to vote for anyone other than the main parties. I think ‘times are a changing’. I would be interested to hear your views.

#thoughtleadership - Turning the dial! It's always great for the public to hear politicians announce new potentially exciting ideas...& we should celebrate that Of course... timing matters! • Learning about these at or post GE anniuncement... invites critique, cynicism & skepticism... why if genuine, leave it until now? 🤔 Perhaps a better strategy might be resolve some of the existing indabas first... deliver actual results... before creating space on the shelf for new indabas! • Empty sweet jars (resolve issues) before adding to the variety available! Surely this approach generates & fosters credibility... & actually fixing things becomes a healthy contagion! Perhaps there's still time to change tack! #besafe #ceos #leadership #business #strategy #riskmanagement #journalism #europeanunion #europeanparliament #personaldevelopment #UN #NATO European Leadership European Commission SkyNews Inc Skynewsuk.com The Guardian ITV Studios ITV #travel #health #nhs #tourism
