Following up on my post last week about my fundraiser this year. There are lot of DEI efforts out there looking to provide gender based equity. I don't have real data but my sense (from my observations) is that statistically speaking we are still scratching the surface, merely addressing symptoms of a lop-sided societal structure and just chasing big numbers (aka scale). It is also not uncommon to see DEI efforts swinging the pendulum to an extreme and thereby lose popular support. That said, all this is much better than no gender based DEI initiatives at all. Gender based equity done right is rare. It is in fact not easy at all. Having seen #golaadli grow, and the thought that has gone into making sure gender based equity actually is addressed at the root cause, I am convinced that this organization will eventually make a real tangible impact on young women of tomorrow. Today is International Women's Day. I originally had a post planned with lots of statistics about women in the workforce, how women are perceived and treated, and how inequitable so many things still are. I realized we know all of that. Instead, I want this post to focus on solutions. I'm starting with my TEDx talk about Banishing the Miss Congeniality Complex. So many women are forced to focus on others instead of themselves, and take on roles that often move them away from getting the recognition and having the impact that they deserve. I go over three solutions to those problems in this talk. Make sure you are: ✅ Creating and sticking to your list of non-negotiables. ✅ Saying yes to the things that align with your goals and know to the things that don’t. ✅ Giving sponsors the joy of sticking your praises. This talk introduces you to how to do each of those, but the full version of the talk gives you all of the detail you need.
