COSMO Science Forum "Dr. Future - Medical Technology from Dresden Science" - the ITM presents current projects The COSMO Science Forum in the Kulturpalast Dresden will be showing the new exhibition "Dr. Future - Medical Technology from Dresden Science" from October 1, 2024. There, the ITM and scientists from Dresden research institutions will present current projects and offer an interactive journey into the future of medicine. As part of the CeTI Cluster of Excellence, we will be presenting a textile glove with integrated strain sensors which, as a digital twin, records surgical movements and thus represents a completely new measuring and learning instrument for the operation of medical robots. We will also be presenting intelligent therapeutic pants produced in cooperation with industrial partners for recording gait parameters and functional electrical stimulation for patients with weak foot dorsiflexion. The research projects funded by the AiF e.V. on the technological development of woven heart valves and lifelike eardrum implants illustrate the future possibilities for use in medicine. The exhibition is aimed at science enthusiasts aged 12 and over. On September 23, 2024, Dr.-Ing. Philipp Köhler successfully defended his dissertation on "Development and evaluation of carbon fibers based on melt-spun filaments made of polyvinyl alcohol" at the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at TU Dresden. The defense was chaired by Prof. Maik Gude (Chair of Lightweight System Engineering and Multi-Material Design, TU Dresden). The dissertation was reviewed by Prof. Chokri Cherif (ITM), Prof. Florian Puch (Thuringian Institute for Textile and Plastics Research Rudolstadt e.V.) and Prof. Steffen Fischer (Institute of Plant and Wood Chemistry, TU Dresden). Prof. Yordan Kyosev (ITM) acted as assessor. The entire ITM team congratulates Dr.-Ing. Phillip Köhler on the successful defense of his dissertation and wishes him continued success in his future professional and private endeavors.

On September 4, the declaration of intent for international cooperation between Kcarbon and the ITM was signed in the Saxon State Chancellery. The ceremony was attended by the signatories Dr. JI-YOUNG HWANG (authorized representative of the Korea Carbon Industry Promotion Agency) and Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dipl.-Wirt. Ing. Chokri Cherif (Director of the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology), Kwan Young Kim (the Prime Minister of Jeonbuk State) and the Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer.   This marks the beginning of joint and systematic research in the fields of carbon fibers and carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) between South Korea and Germany, the South Korean province of Jeollabukdo and Saxony as well as Kcarbon and the ITM. We look forward to further deepening the relationship and conducting successful international research.

On September 04, 2024, Dr.-Ing. Irina Kuznik defended under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Maik Gude (Chair of Lightweight System Engineering and Multi-Material Design, TU Dresden) defended her dissertation "Technology development for the production of multifilament yarns using ionic liquids from carbon-based biopolymers using the example of chitin and chitosan", which she wrote at the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at TU Dresden. The doctoral thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dipl.-Wirt. Cherif (ITM) and Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Gert Heinrich (TU Dresden, Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden e.V.). As assessors, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Yordan Kyosev (ITM) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Niels Modler (Chair of Function-integrative Lightweight Engineering, TU Dresden) supervised the doctoral procedure. The staff of the ITM are proud and congratulate Dr.-Ing. Irina Kuznik on the successful completion of her dissertation and wish her all the best and much success for her professional and private future.

On 02.09.2024, Dr.-Ing. Dominik Münks, MBA defended his dissertation entitled "Additive Printing on Textiles - Challenges and Opportunities for Individual Stitch Protection", which he wrote at the Institute of Textile Machinery and High Performance Material Technology (ITM) at TU Dresden, under the chairmanship of Prof. Schmauder (Institute of Textile Machinery and Industrial Engineering) The doctoral thesis was assessed by Prof. Yordan Kyosev (ITM) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Katrin S. Freier (Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences). Prof. Cherif (ITM) acted as examiner. Another member of the doctoral committee was Prof. Axel Spickenheuer (Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research e.V.). The staff of the ITM would like to congratulate Dr.-Ing. Dominik Münks on the successful completion of his dissertation and wish him all the best and continued success for his professional and private future.
