GenAI Prompting Principles - This is my take on prompting in my AI journey It would be great if an AI could interpret your request, understand the context of your situation, and consider the timing of your question to provide the most relevant response. However, our current technology isn't quite there yet. We need to provide this context to large language models (LLMs) to get the best results. Understanding the "why" and "how" behind what you're asking, similar to understanding the principles in cooking or mathematics, can help refine your requests and improve the outcomes. 1) Give Clear Directions: - Describe your request in detail. - Reference a relevant persona, comparable example, or other well-known elements to create a solid foundation. 2) Specify Response Format: - Define the desired format (e.g., email, resume, table). - Establish any specific rules (e.g., use bullet points, keep it under 100 words). 3) Provide Examples and Data: - Include data in your prompt to provide context. - Share previous examples if you want to maintain a similar style or structure. - Warning: Be mindful of sensitive information you share with the AI. 4) Evaluate Quality: - Review the AI's output. - Provide feedback (e.g., "Can you make this shorter?" or "Can you expand on X, Y, Z?"). 5) Break Down the Problem: - If the initial request isn't as you expect, try breaking it down into smaller steps. - Ask for specific sections of your request to refine the output.
