In 2003, African Union Member Countries committed themselves to ending hunger in Africa by 2025, later known as the Maputo Declaration. To achieve the goal of ending hunger, the declaration’s primary aim was to allocate 10% of national budgets to agriculture and attain a 6% annual growth rate in the sector, focusing on land and water management, rural infrastructure, food production, and hunger reduction, and agricultural research and technology. Great idea. Apt. The SAPZ is a novel approach to curb the ravaging food losses along the food chain. Nigeria 🇳🇬 needs this 21st Century model to stabilize and address our food security needs. The take off of the first 3 states (Ogun, Oyo & Kaduna) that have fulfilled AfDB’s conditions should encourage other participating states to key into this laudable project.

The Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) The CAADP Report serves as a roadmap for African countries and stakeholders to work together towards transforming agriculture in Africa, ensuring food security, fostering economic growth, and promoting sustainable development. It promotes the idea that agriculture can be a catalyst for broader social and economic transformation on the continent. CAADP follows a country-led approach, where each African country takes ownership of its agricultural development plan. The program recognizes that specific challenges and opportunities vary across countries, and tailored strategies are necessary to address them effectively. In addition, CAADP emphasizes the importance of aligning national agricultural policies with the program’s principles and pillars. This includes increasing public and private investment in agriculture, with the target of allocating at least 10% of national budgets to the sector. #AfricaInvestmentForum: Founding members of a new private-sector focused Alliance for Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZs) commit $3 billion investment to boost African agriculture and food production.      #SAPZs stimulate structural transformation in agriculture by connecting rural and urban development through the zone’s ecosystem.
