🤝Building Real Estate on Relationships ❤️Passionate about People, Real Estate & Windsor! ✅CRE Leasing/Sales, Greenhouse, Land Dev & Res Sales
🚠 The concept of a gondola connecting Windsor and Detroit may seem like a far-fetched notion, but it’s a wild idea with a history. Discussions began in 1999, envisioning a link between the two cities suspended over the Detroit River. The ambitious proposal, first introduced by Skylink International at the turn of the millennium, envisioned a system spanning the international borders, aptly named the Freedom Gondola. However, despite its $72 million price tag and the potential to ferry thousands of passengers per hour, the plan never materialized. Fast forward to 2021, and the dream came alive once more thanks to SCJ Alliance’s concept study outlining a more modern vision for this aerial link, emphasizing its potential to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance mobility. 🚡 While no concrete plans are in place, the idea persists—a testament to the enduring allure of innovation and connectivity in this bustling border region. TOMORROW! We’re back with the team from Toole Design Group, Catherine Girves and Tobi Otulana, who we heard from in our last episode on inclusive transportation, and Leah F. Evans, Homeport president and CEO. For this bonus ‘sode we’re discussing how we can support adding density with robust transportation options, including mass transit like light rail and bus rapid transit (BRT). We talk about tackling our public right of way policies and how we can adjust them to make room for modes like biking and walking. Can we add density without having transportation options already built in for the individuals and families who inevitably need to move from one place to another? Would things like BRT and light rail be viable without first establishing density?

Cyclists don’t always get the treatment they deserve at temporary works. A sign essentially asking them not to use the road isn’t the answer. My upcoming paper and presentation at JCT Symposium (title below) perhaps helps to lift the lid on a key part of the problem: The Tortoise and The Hare: Modelling road user micro-journeys to determine accurate Intergreen times. Looking forward to sharing our work and catching up on other developments in the field. #SignallingPetrolheads https://lnkd.in/eRMWd7jv

Working for a more inclusive world by bringing the concepts of universal design into the 21st century.
Transport will be one of the topics at the upcoming CUDA symposium in Brisbane. So I thought it timely to repost this article on putting pedestrians first in transport and infrastructure planning. Transport planners and engineers will be familiar with both the Safe System approach and the Movement and Place framework. The implicit assumption is that these approaches will put pedestrians first. But will they? A universal design approach takes and inclusive whole of population view. It acknowledges that pedestrians are diverse and have varying abilities in negotiating street infrastructure. See link for two items: one on planning for walkability, and the other on making streets safer for pedestrians. You might have you own thoughts about the second one.
