Radical right in the EU Parliament has boosted its influence at the last European elections but lacks cohesion. The bloc might resist significant CFSP reforms but won't likely disrupt current initiatives. Enlargement may face hurdles, but NATO and EU support for Ukraine will likely to continue. #IAICommentary by Federico Castiglioni and Luca Cinciripini➡️ https://lnkd.in/dDwjsV-V

Snap elections in #France have kept out the far-right, a welcome outcome. The post-WWII “cordon sanitaire” has endured—thanks to the creation of the cross-party “Front Republicain” that coordinated in close races to keep the right from power. But far from the “clarification” that Macron hoped to achieve from the gambit, what will follow is an extended period of political disarray. And as I said in my conversation this morning on CNBC with Karen Tso and Arabile Gumede on @SquawkBoxEurope, it’s too soon to write the political obituary of the French far-right. Markets had priced in a #hungparliament outcome, but this result is a mixed bag; better relations with the #EU are likely, and continued support for military aid to Ukraine, but challenges with cohesion on the budget this autumn. On the plus side, Putin will be disappointed…Stay tuned 🇫🇷 #PQ #PoliticalQuotient #VoxPopuliRisk #PoliticalRisk #Europe #independentanalysis Fordham Global Foresight

#VantageOnFirstpost EU President Calls Far-Right Parties "Putin's Proxies" | Vantage with Palki Sharma European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen has called far-right parties "Putin's proxies" weeks ahead of elections to the European parliament. Opinion polls suggest that far-right parties could make significant gains and influence EU's policy on Ukraine and Russia. European leaders fear that a right-wing EU could end military aid to Ukraine and reset relations with Putin's Russia. Von der Leyen is said to be reaching out to Italy's right-wing prime minister Giorgia Meloni for support from her right-of-centre coalition. What would a far-right European Union look like? How would it affect the war in Ukraine? Palki Sharma tells you. --- Europe | European Union | MEP | Far Right | Vladimir Putin | Ursula von der Leyen | Firstpost | World News | News Live | Vantage | Palki Sharma | News #europeanunion #elections2024 #vladimirputin #firstpost #vantageonfirstpost #palkisharma #worldnews
