VSB Group to Begin Construction of 60 MW Photovoltaic Project in Sicily The VSB Group is set to commence construction on its first photovoltaic project in Sicily, a 60 MW ground-mounted system spanning 100 hectares in Ramacca, in the province of Catania. The German company has announced that the commissioning of the project is scheduled for 2025. Upon completion, the photovoltaic park is expected to produce approximately 117,000 MWh of electricity annually. “The VSB Italia team currently has a total of 1.8 gigawatts of wind and photovoltaic projects under development. We're proud to announce our strategic acquisition of the Khauta Solar PV Facility, a significant 350MW project near Welkom, Free State. The addition of Khauta to our portfolio, represents months of hard work for our team, marking a major milestone, whilst increasing our grid-secured assets to around 500MW. Comprising Khauta A (240MW) and Khauta B (110MW), this facility is projected to generate 905 GWh annually, powering approximately 109,000 households each year. The Khauta cluster is one of the largest solar pv projects in the Free State, a region that has recently drawn significant development interest, with several large clusters nearing commercialisation. This interest is largely due to improved grid access—a challenge in other green energy hotspots. Niger commissions 30 Megawatts solar plant: A French consortium featuring Akuo and Sagecom has built a 30 MW solar plant in Niger. The European Union, the French Development Bank and the government of Niger co-financed the installation. The facility, which is located about 10 kilometers from the capital, Niamey, was developed as part of improving the city's electricity supply under the aegis of the national electricity company, Nigelec. Production will hit 53 GWh in the first year and will be fed into the Nigelec network. ACEN Corp. is eyeing a P5.5-billion loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to develop solar photovoltaic projects in the country. Major Global Player in Renewable Energies

The REopt® web tool, created by NREL and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) FEMP, is an extremely useful asset that helps users evaluate their optimal mix of renewable energy, conventional generation, and energy storage technologies to meet cost savings, resilience, emissions reductions, and energy performance goals. 🌎 ⚡ In addition to helping homeowners and federal agencies across the United States, REopt is also helping abroad! As part of a microgrid project in Cameroon, Renewable Energy Innovators Cameroon, NREL, and other partners used the tool to evaluate a pilot solar and storage microgrid in Voundou, a community in the Central Region of Cameroon. The #microgrid was launched in October 2022, and the project team estimates that more than 20,000 people in Voundou and surrounding villages indirectly benefit from more reliable electricity services, crucial for healthcare facilities and local businesses. Building on the success of the Voundou pilot, REIc aims to install microgrids in 134 additional communities across Cameroon. Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) and Nuru, a company based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), signed a new agreement, to establish a new mini-grid, which is expected to provide access to clean energy in the northeastern part of the country. This project is expected to provide access to electricity for residential, commercial, and institutional customers in peri-urban and urban areas. This latest Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) ) agreement with Nuru Société par Actions Simplifée Unipersonnelle (Nuru SASU) was undertaken to scale up new mini-grids, or metro-grids. In total, up to EUR 5 million in results-based financing will be provided from BGFA to the project. This investment is expected to mobilize EUR 28 million in additional co-financing over the coming four years. “BGFA’s results-based financing has been instrumental in securing new equity and project financing to develop our new metro grid in Bunia. Together, we will bring power to over 125,000 people and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 8,000 metric tonnes by the end of the project implementation. We are grateful to partner with BGFA, which recognizes the significant energy gap in the DRC and the multi-decade transformation that Nuru’s renewable energy infrastructure can bring to the country in cities like Bunia,” says Jonathan Shaw, Co-Founder and CEO of Nuru. “By supporting Nuru to further develop and deploy mini-grids in the DRC, we can support the scale-up of electricity access to people living in peri-urban areas, thereby supporting social development, economic growth, and the green transition in Northern DRC,” comments Aleksandra Reskalenko, Programme Officer at Nefco.
