Recently I had a discussion about defining the right compset, this let me to the question: Are traditional compsets still the best approach? In an evolving hospitality industry, the traditional approach to benchmarking using strictly pre-defined compsets should be questioned: ➡ Challenges with Traditional Compsets: Selecting direct competitors for benchmarking has always been challenging. With the rise of OTAs and alternative accommodations like AirBnBs, defining competition isn't as clear-cut as it used to be. ➡ Consumer Behavior Shifts: Modern travelers aren’t just choosing between hotels in the same category; they're considering a wide range of options. This demands a broader benchmarking scope that includes various types of accommodations. ➡ Technology’s Role: Advances in data analytics and AI enable more comprehensive benchmarking, allowing us to analyze broader market trends and adapt strategies accordingly. ➡ Hybrid Approach: Perhaps the solution is a hybrid approach, combining traditional compsets with broader market insights.
