🚀 Wednesday Word Of The Week: Feeders 🚀 This week, we're zooming in on a pivotal component in the bulk material handling industry - "Feeders"! A feeder's primary role is to regulate the flow of materials from equipment to the conveying system, ensuring a steady, controlled flow that matches the system's requirements. They play a crucial part in maintaining efficiency and productivity in operations, from mining to farming and everything in between. Feeders come in various designs and specifications tailored to different applications, including screw feeders, vibrating feeders, belt feeders, and more. Selecting the right type is essential for optimizing performance and minimizing waste. When shopping for feeders, it's important to consider: · Material properties (e.g., size, corrosiveness, moisture content, density) · Desired feed rate · Integration with existing systems · Angle of incline (if any) · Feeder inlet size · Height of material in hopper or silo Feeders are more than just a component; they are the heartbeat of material handling processes, ensuring materials are delivered where they need to be, when they need to be there. 💡 We're curious: What other words related to the bulk material handling industry would you like us to feature in upcoming posts? Engage with us! Your feedback not only fuels our next topic but strengthens our community as a trusted source of industry insights.

New Report: Pathways Analysis Summary: Decarbonization Potential for Industrial Subsectors - Preliminary Modeling Results We're excited to announce the release of the U.S. DOE Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office's (IEDO) latest draft modeling report. This publication builds upon the 2022 Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap, providing valuable insights to support stakeholder engagement and strategic decision-making on industrial decarbonization in the U.S. and even globally. I was honored to be one of the lead authors of this report. I led the roadmap development for the U.S. steel and cement industry, working with a great team of researchers from several national labs and Energetics. Key Highlights of this document: - Comprehensive analysis and modeling overview - Net-zero emissions pathways for six key industrial subsectors: cement, chemicals, food and beverage, iron and steel, petroleum refining, and pulp and paper - Overview of barriers, challenges, pathways, and technologies for the broader industry sectors Note: this is a "Preliminary Modeling Result." We are further refining the analyses, and hopefully, we will publish the final report by the end of 2024. Also, a workshop was held in mid-May to get stakeholders' input on this work. https://lnkd.in/gJmub6Cn #IndustrialDecarbonization #NetZero #EnergyEfficiency #DOE #ClimateAction

Industrial cooling systems are among the most significant contributors to GHG emissions. But companies like Sovereign Foods Ltd, Clover S.A. Proprietary Limited, and Dr. Oetker, are leading the charge in transforming their cooling operations by embracing Cooling as a Service (#Caas). The model not only aligns with global environmental #sustainability goals, it also addresses the financial and operational challenges associated with traditional cooling systems. Through CaaS, these companies are setting a new standard for efficient, sustainable, and economically viable industrial #cooling, paving the way for a greener future. #industrialcooling #efficiency #refrigeration Engineering News

What is actually… ISCO? ISCO stands for In-Situ Chemical Oxidation and refers to a technology in which oxidants are applied directly to the soil or groundwater for the degradation of pollutants. This saves transportation costs and can be done by soil mixing or injection. Since most organic pollutants (e.g., BTEX, PAHs, or even persistent CHCs such as cis-DCE and vinyl chloride) can be degraded by oxidation, ISCO is a very flexible and widely applicable technology. However, there are several other substances in soil and groundwater that can also be oxidized (for example, natural organic matter or dissolved metals), so it is essential to know their concentrations before designing an ISCO measure so that sufficient oxidant can be applied! ☝ Evonik | Soil & Groundwater Remediation's KLOZUR® product line for ISCO applications is based on activated persulfate as an oxidant. Although potassium permanganate might suit us better in terms of its "deep purple" color, the oxidizing power of activated persulfate is significantly higher due to the radical mechanism. In principle, hydrogen peroxide is also suitable for soil and groundwater remediation, but persulfates are optimal for this application because they are transported as a solid and cause less gas and heat generation when applied. The KLOZUR® portfolio includes readily water soluble sodium persulfate (KLOZUR® SP), slowly soluble potassium persulfate with depot effect (KLOZUR® KP) and sodium persulfate with integrated activator (KLOZUR® One). Since ISCO can be wonderfully combined with aerobic bioremediation, we have KLOZUR® CR (combined remedy) in our portfolio for this purpose. I will explain what aerobic bioremediation is all about in the coming weeks. https://lnkd.in/en7ueWYC

“In an uncertain world, localising and securing supply chains makes sense.” - Ivan Williams, CEO of CarbonScape. With electrification on the rise, graphite is set to become an ever more important mineral due to its major role in lithium-ion batteries. Currently, the US and EU have very limited capacity to produce graphite. But it doesn’t have to be this way – biographite can be produced almost anywhere that has a forestry industry, thereby increasing security for the battery sector, which relies so heavily on this critical mineral. CarbonScape is making this a reality by bringing biographite to market in both the US and EU. Want to know more? In Work Package 2, we focus on two key objectives: - Firstly, characterising and supplying catalyst samples for R&D and #FIREFLYHorizonEurope pilot activities, enhancing our small-scale pilot. - Secondly, conducting Material Flow Analysis and creating a Geographical Information System (GIS) inventory of catalysts at European level. 📊🗺️ During the initial phase, we've selected and characterised #catalyst samples from diverse industrial processes, including power plants, recycling, pharmaceuticals, and more. We're also advancing the Material Flow Analysis, studying input-output across the FIREFLY process. This analysis targets valuable metals like #gold (Au), #silver (Ag), and #PlatinumGroupMetals (#PGMs), holding the potential for significant economic value from #waste #catalysts. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e_eUMkgM
