What a Day!!!! More than 230 professional and student pharmacists from across Pennsylvania joined with state legislators yesterday, Monday, April 8, at the PA Pharmacy Legislative Day to call on the General Assembly to pass bipartisan legislation that will bring desperately needed reforms to how pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) operate in Pennsylvania. Senate Bill 1000 and House Bill 1993 will stop this predatory practice once and for all. Pennsylvania’s annual Medicaid spend on the pharmacy benefit has drastically increased, from $1.41 billion in 2013 to $3.7 billion, according to the National Community Pharmacy Association (NCPA). Not only is that increasing the cost of prescriptions, but it’s also leading to the increased closure of community pharmacies. Since January, over 80 chain and independent pharmacies have closed. “The timing is perfect to take steps to create a transparent and accountable PBM system that will lower prescription drug costs and protect access to pharmacies for Pennsylvania taxpayers,” said Chris Antypas, a pharmacy owner and president of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association. “With strong bipartisan support in the legislature, everyone agrees it’s time to turn off the taxpayer money spigot for PBMs in Pennsylvania.” Watch the livestream recording on our PAPharmacists Instagram page: https://lnkd.in/gBBnJs6M #PBMReformNow #SaveCommunityPharmacies

GP Pharmacist | Consultant Pharmacist | Talks about #multidisciplinarycare #ruralhealth #pharmacy #generalpractice *Credentialed Pharmacist of the Year 2024*
“Our Strategic Agreement is a bit of a watershed” - Dr. Shane Jackson. A watershed moment. A moment that signifies a turning point, a moment of significant change that impacts the future. Yesterday, we witnessed such a moment for our profession. The signing of the #8CPA signifies certainty and stability for my colleagues in Community Pharmacy, allowing them to continue being an essential part of the patients health journey, especially after a time of significant disruption and challenge to our profession. But yesterday was as much about what was in the 8CPA as what wasn’t. The signing of PSA’s Strategic Agreement is indeed a watershed moment, a triumph for all pharmacists, everywhere, but particularly for those working beyond the four walls of a Community Pharmacy. This Strategic Agreement is for you. It empowers the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia to not only uphold the profession with robust #standards and #guidelines but also to acknowledge, evaluate and elevate the invaluable work pharmacists do in all corners of the health landscape- work that has long been considered “non-traditional” or “not the norm.” Consultant Credentialed Pharmacists delivering medication management reviews, pharmacists working in the disability sector, pharmacists in General Practice, in Aged Care, in ACCHO's, the list goes on and as our role and scope of practice continues to evolve, the list will too. Our skillset as pharmacists travels with us, and this Strategic Agreement allows us to truly explore how a pharmacist can take those skills wherever they’re needed. And where are they needed? Those who have been following for a while will know the answer to that. Everywhere medicines are, pharmacists must be. …and THIS is the watershed moment that can make that happen. #Pharmacy #8CPA #GPPharmacist #CommunityPharmacy A/Prof Fei Sim FPS Steve Morris Chris Campbell Peter Guthrey
Today, our beloved profession welcome the signing of the 8th Community Pharmacy Agreement (8CPA) between The Pharmacy Guild of Australia and the Commonwealth Government which provides certainty and stability to the sector. Today, for the first time in history, the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA), on behalf of the profession, have also signed a Strategic Agreement on Pharmacist Professional Practice with the Commonwealth Government. This Agreement acknowledges that the role of pharmacists is changing and evolving. It seeks to facilitate consistency in the standards and quality of pharmacist services, and build a framework to support current, future and emerging areas of practice as we navigate through the next steps of the Scope of Practice Review to meet the health needs of Australians. As the National President of the PSA, I feel privileged to work alongside some of our most amazing team - CEO A/Prof Steve Morris, Lead Negotiator Dr Shane Jackson, Chris Campbell, Peter Guthrey, Georgia C., the Policy Team, working group Sara Pantzer, Bridget Totterman, Caroline Diamantis. There have been hundreds of hours of tireless work, brain cells, tension and sweat, and I thank each of you for your leadership and dedication. Throughout this whole process, we seek to deliver an outcome that is best for our profession, our health system, and the patients we serve. Together with the 8CPA, these agreements secure the most significant federal government commitment to supporting pharmacy practice in history, lifting the bar in terms of quality of care and breath of services delivered by pharmacist across the health system. Today is a milestone, but the work is not done. Our efforts will continue as PSA action the work plan of our Strategic Agreement, support pharmacists on the implementation of programs and lead the discussions to shape the design, implementation and evaluation of programs not governed within the 8CPA.
