This excellent piece from John Dodge below ⬇ is congruent with how we understand #Irishness on Irish Stew. Many people have multiple geographic identities; co-host Martin Nutty was born in #Dublin to an #Irish father and #English mother and has lived in #NYC for over 40 years. Is he Irish? - Yes, Is he #British - Yes. Is he #American - Yes All of the above ⬆ are NOT mutually exclusive. Our political world is troubled by a trend towards ugly binaryism. It is most pronounced by those who focus on skin color, an ugly legacy of Western hemispheric slavery, and its turgid spawn - racism. Those who spout such retrograde nonsense rarely have any understanding of history or their own ancestral past, which might be far more diverse than they care to believe. Being Irish is not simply a matter of DNA, nativity, the ability to speak #Gaeilge, or residency on the island. If all those things were required, the Irish world would shrink dramatically. At Irish Stew, we believe in big-tent #Irishness and that a more inclusive understanding of what it means to be Irish would better serve Ireland and its vast diaspora. Modern Irishness is an idea that binds Irish people together who share a deep affection for their home island. It is based on a respectful egalitarian view of the individual without regard for race or creed but is collectively rooted in fidelity to the country's governing law. Those who would impose some spurious bright line test must be reminded that Patrick Pearse's DNA was half English, Tom Clarke was born in southern England, and James Connolly spoke with a pronounced Scottish accent. Nobody thinks of any of these men as anything other than Irish. #GlobalIrishNation #BlackAndIrish https://lnkd.in/eympSCyv

UPDATE: Here's a link to the city's survey, please fill it in to let them know what you want in the new park: https://lnkd.in/gUCi8dga ORIGINAL POST: Tonight's the night! I look forward to seeing all of you lovely OC Bikers, Skaters, BMXers, Scooters, Rollers and Bladers tonight at the Irvine Town Hall at **6pm at Portola Spring Community Park!*** I'll be wearing a bright yellow Digit Bikes T-shirt if you want to find me. I'm told that the city is quite commited to developing a multi-use facility as a starter kit for all-wheeled fun, and hopefully later developing more specialist features such as a BMX track, advanced skate features, etc... They want our feedback on how to include everyone, and to see that there's community support for it! Local bike leaders - I think your voices would be valuable. There might be opportunities for your organizations and our local community to benefit from this at little/no cost (The city is NOT looking for funding). I've proposed that it would be great to have a bike share from the train station with lock/charge facilities around the park. Perhaps local commuters could use this too - imagine a bike shop with leased secure storage at the train station, where they could do maintenance and sales. Maybe an ebike demo facility? The city liked these ideas. Perhaps you could help orchestrate something like this, or inject better ideas at the meeting... See y'all there.
UPDATE: Here's a link to the city's survey, please fill it in to let them know what you want in the new park: https://lnkd.in/gUCi8dga ORIGINAL POST: OC and Irvine cyclists, come out on February 29th at 6pm @ Portola Springs Community Park to let City of Irvine know how badly we want this. It looks like it might finally be happening, please come help push this down the home straight!

At face value, this video might look like a passionate football manager reflecting on a game, questioning decisions made by match officials (referees, VAR etc). But, look a bit deeper - it is about the divide that exists between the East and West. It's that feeling of being an outsider because of where you live. People have a preconceived idea of who you are based on where you are from. And then there is the feeling of disenfranchisement, the reality is we don't have the same access to things as other areas do. Growing up in South West Sydney, I understand this feeling well. Whenever I'd go to a public speaking competition held at private schools in Sydney's east. When I went to Sydney University. Even at some of my previous jobs. The A-Leagues have an opportunity to shine a spotlight on all the beauty the west has to offer. As Marko Rudan articulated, our community is culturally diverse, passionate, ambitious - we add so much value to the country as a whole. Football can unite the community and can be the platform to exhibit the best of our community too. 👉 This means the way we talk about our communities in the media, how we call out language that is harmful, the standards we hold everyone too (no double standards) and make sure we have different perspectives at decision making tables. Macarthur FC and Western Sydney Wanderers are a beacon of hope for football loving kids in the west but also too an example of the kind of quality you can expect to find in our growing suburbs. (P.S. GO THE BULLS!!) https://lnkd.in/g3Rdss-h

Yesterday I was privileged to spend a day in Middlesbrough and South Tees with Isac Mitchell and colleagues from You've Got This, one of Sport England's deepening places. Being relatively new to Sport England's work in Place, it was great to actually chat to partners and organisations working in the communities we invest in and understand what place based systemic work looks like in practice within South Tees. As I drove home, my head was spinning. Reflecting on the day and the conversations I'd heard, two things really stood out to me: 1. If we want to tackle inequalities at their root, the work which we do in communities and our local and national policy must account for the multiple ways inequalities manifest in people’s everyday lives - recognising the role which intersectionality plays, is key, in not only understanding inequalities in physical activity, but also wider inequalities, and creating solutions to overcome them. 2. There are passionate people right across our communities who are desperate for change and we need to ensure that 'we' build the capability and capacity, and the means by which communities, and those with lived experience can advocate for, influence and be involved in policy and decision making relating to their own spaces, places and communities. Despite my head spinning from the sheer complexity of working with complex challenges associated not only with physical activity, but also poverty, ill-health, education etc. which are manifesting in a Place, I'm really excited to continue to be involved in the wider Place work moving forwards. You can check out some of the resources which have been developed by our National Evaluation and Learning Partner (NELP) for evaluating complexity, here: https://lnkd.in/e28DrmyW

An absolute pleasure. The conversion was rich in solutions rather than a perspective of reactions. Often we look to mitigate the impact of society on our young people. Rather than looking to remove any barriers that they may face. It was great to get back to the core, with a group of individuals who which to use sport, not only as a mechanism for a professional avenue, but more to draw away the skills that sport teaches us. Having played full time football and part time in non-league. Even being lucky enough to move onto the Conference. All whilst running a business. Sport has taught me the following: - hard work is not negotiable, - just because you like something it doesn’t make the grind any easier, - resilience is a must in any walk of life, - team work is essential to build morale and culture, - you must be willing to pick others up around you where they need a helping hand. These are the same principles that I have applied to life and here at Bouncing Statistics whilst I wish for young people to learn these vital skills and values also.
Brilliant meeting Rackeem Reid yesterday discussing all things young people, the challenges they face and the power that sport has to level the playing field, and to hear about their brilliant work Bouncing Statistics. Really thought-provoking conversation about being evidence-based in our approach and authentic in our direction as we look to put plans in place for our upcoming football and education programme Birmingham United for the 24/25 season. Looking forward to working together to positively impact the lives of young people in our city.

Off the Pitch Interview: Huw Jenkins eyes new EFL challenge after steering Swansea's golden era *A club rising from the precipice of non-league to the heights of the Premier League and Europe is a known success story, often associated with Brighton. However, Swansea City had a similar journey. *Huw Jenkins, the then-chairman, was crucial to Swansea's success, overseeing various milestones from 2002 onward. In an exclusive interview he reflects on the ingredients of the club’s success. *Why it matters: A new cadre of investor-owners often have ambitious data driven plans, but Jenkins argues there are merits in a more basic approach: a tight-knit management team, strict cost control and strong local identity. *The perspective: Four years after leaving Swansea, Jenkins is on the verge of a return to football with Newport County. Can he replicate The Swans’ success? Author James Corbett, Senior Correspondent. Off the Pitch

Reflecting on Masters Week here in #Georgia, it's hard not to draw parallels between the precision of golf and the artistry of trial law. As visitors inquire about the golf clubs in my office, I often find myself likening the trial process to the strategic intricacies of the game. Just as a golfer meticulously organizes their thoughts and perceives each shot, trial lawyers meticulously plan their case, weighing every move with precision and discipline. In both endeavors, success hinges on knowing where you stand and where you're headed. Just as a golfer must be aware of their footing and club position at all times, trial lawyers must consider the sequence of witnesses, the impact of each testimony, and the nuanced decisions that shape the narrative of a case. Whether deciding the order of medical experts or evaluating the timing of witness testimony, the preparation for trial mirrors the nuanced challenges of golf. And just as I find joy in the game of golf, I find fulfillment in the strategic dance of trial law. It's a passion rooted in the appreciation for precision, strategy, and the pursuit of excellence. https://lnkd.in/enzaSCDw #hastypope #masters #golf #mastersgolf #triallawyers #cherokeecountyga #cantonga #cantongeorgia #gainesvillega
