🟦 GMDSS equipment must work properly to perform the functions assigned to it. To ensure this, regular testing of both the ship's radio communication equipment and reserve power is carried out daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on the type of device. 📅 DAILY / WEEKLY TESTS • VHF DSC • MF/HF DSC • INMARSAT-C • GMDSS batteries • MF/HF, Navtex, INMARSAT-C 📅 MONTHLY TESTS • VHF Handheld Radio • 406 MHZ EPIRB • AIS-SART • X-band SART • GMDSS batteries ➡️ WHO DOES THE CHECKS Testing procedures are performed by the GMDSS radio operators and may differ depending on the equipment manufacturer and the results of the checks are entered in the Radio Log Book. ➡️ HOW THE CHECKS ARE RECORDED A brief description of the operational status of the equipment should be recorded along with the name of any station that was contacted during the tests. IMO has carried out GMDSS modernization for several years since the implementation of GMDSS is 1988. The objective is to adopt to modern communication system and eliminate carriage requirements for outdated systems. Consequently, various existing IMO instruments concerning radio communication, such as SOLAS Chapter IV, have undergone revisions and are set to be enforced from January 1, 2024. #KoreanRegister #SOLAS_Chapter_IV #GMDSS
