The importance of selecting the right Development Engineering Consultant Procurement: Goes through the Quotations from Engineering Consultants Development Engineering Consultant X: Provided the lowest rate Procurement: "You're perfect for the role." Development Engineering Consultant X: Signed up Now, here's the twist: The Council had budget for the role more than what would be spend on Development Engineering Consultant X. Internal team pats themselves on the back for a job well done in selecting the Consultant, thinking they've saved the Council money and got a local. The Consultant X is coming from a popular but just general civil engineer with little or no Development Assessment experience will provide the assessment services. The result: After 6 months down the line, Council figured out that; · They have missed the opportunity for certain land resumptions, works etc those would have been provided by the applicant or the developer. · There are conflicts of interest given the mother company has been involved in development projects in the same Council area. The procurement process starts again, leading to more costs and delays to the business processes. The lesson: Attract and engage a Development Engineering Consultant with relevant DA experience like Aucie Consulting Engineers (www.aucieconsulting.com) and pay people what they're worth. It's a win-win for everyone!

The difference between a consultant, owner's engineer, and contractor: The consultant, owner's engineer, and contractor are three different roles in the engineering and construction industry. Here are the main differences between them: 1. Role and Responsibilities: - Consultant: A consultant provides consulting and technical services to clients. They work on providing advice and guidance in the design and planning of engineering projects, and assist in making technical and strategic decisions. - Owner's Engineer: The owner's engineer represents the owner or investor in the project. They are responsible for ensuring that the project is executed according to the required specifications and standards, monitoring costs and schedules, dealing with contractors and suppliers, and ensuring compliance with local and international regulations. - Contractor: The contractor is responsible for executing the project based on the specifications and designs provided by the consultant or owner's engineer. They organize the workforce, manage the site, purchase necessary materials, carry out construction works, and control quality and safety. 2. Involvement in Project Stages: - Consultant: Consultants usually work in the design and initial preparation stage of the project. They analyze requirements, develop solutions, and provide advice to the client. - Owner's Engineer: The owner's engineer is involved in all stages of the project, starting from planning and design to execution and operation. They work to ensure the successful implementation of the project according to the owner's requirements and existing standards. - Contractor: The contractor comes into the picture during the execution stage, where construction works are carried out based on the designs and instructions provided by the consultant or owner's engineer. 3. Relationship with the Owner: - Consultant: The consultant works independently and provides advice to the owner based on their expertise and technical knowledge. - Owner's Engineer: The owner's engineer represents the owner and works to protect their interests and ensure the successful execution of the project. - Contractor: The contractor is responsible for executing the project as per the requirements and instructions provided by the consultant or owner's engineer. Please note that these roles can vary depending on the specific project and industry practices.

Business Consultant | Structural engineering | Construction Project Management | BIM Manager | Offering Structural design services to General Construction Contractors |
Communication in construction is vital to achieving a successful construction process from inception to completion. Good communication within a team can improve team working skills, lead to positive collaboration and result in an optimistic project journey for the client. So, what are the best ways to maintain effective communication and keep the project running smoothly? 1.Establish Clear Lines of Communication Early on in a construction project it is important to establish a clear line of communication and determine a chain of command. Lines of communication become apparent when a contract is put in place between the client and main contractor. The architect is the line of communication between the client and contractor. The architect is responsible for communicating and liaising with various consultants and contractors, who then communicate information to the various suppliers and sub-contractors. 2.Choose an Appropriate Method of Communication There are numerous methods of communicating whether it be by phone, video, texting or email. On site communication can be in the form of signals, signs, drawings, photos, and verbal meetings. However, various methods can have their advantages and disadvantages: sometimes a short matter of fact email is all that is required to communicate a point. On the other hand, this may not be enough and a scheduled meeting on site face to face may be necessary. 3.Listen When communicating verbally, face to face or by phone, it is important to listen and take notes of key points and details that may need clarification or action. Concentrate on what the speaker is saying and avoid interruptions until they are through speaking. Verify the information provided, seek feedback and ask questions when in the position to speak. Don’t wait until the conversation is over before sending an email requesting clarification on some aspect of a project as this may cause further delay. 4.Be Clear and Concise When communicating in construction, it is important to make sure a message can be understood prior to sending it to the intended recipients. Avoid using jargon, excessive wording or vague terms that are unclear. A message should be short and simple, focused and to the point. The real challenge is to be brief but comprehensive; try to be as detailed as possible whilst using as little words as possible. It can be helpful to proofread all written messages before sending to see if they can be shortened whilst still effectively communicating critical information.

Optimizing Construction Project Planning and Control: 6 Key Steps 🏗️ As a Civil Engineer, I understand the critical importance of effective planning and control in construction projects. Without a well-executed strategy, projects can face delays, excessive costs, and quality issues. Today, I'd like to share 6 key steps to optimize the planning and control of your construction projects. 💰 Budgeting: The foundation of any project starts with a comprehensive budget. Calculate all direct and indirect costs, including materials, labor, equipment, permits, and overheads. Accurate budgeting is essential for the subsequent planning phase. 📅 Planning: Once the budget is approved, it's time to develop a detailed project plan. This plan should outline what, when, and how each aspect of the project will be executed, considering the budget. It's crucial to anticipate challenges and ensure smooth progress. 🚧 Operational and Logistics Management: Efficient on-site management and logistics are essential for staying on schedule. This includes organizing the construction site, managing the flow of materials and personnel, and ensuring safety and security. 📊 Planned vs. Actual: Regularly monitoring project progress is key. Compare planned versus actual work completed and costs incurred. This allows you to make real-time adjustments to keep the project on track. 📈 Learning and Continuous Improvement: Construction projects are dynamic, and the planning and control processes should be, too. Continuously analyze what worked well and what didn't. Use this knowledge to enhance the quality of your operations and products. 🔍 Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize construction management software to streamline processes, monitor progress, and improve decision-making. Technology can help manage costs, schedules, and project data more efficiently. By implementing these steps, you can significantly enhance your construction project's efficiency, minimize risks, and ultimately deliver successful outcomes. If you're a recruiter or industry professional seeking Estimators with expertise in cost estimation, feel free to reach out. Let's connect and explore how I can contribute to your team's success. #Construction #ProjectManagement #CivilEngineering #PlanningAndControl #CostEstimation #Recruitment #CostEstimator #CivilEngineer #Drafter
