Thanks Saloni & team for the meaningful session & this post. The ice-breaker activity that the passionate LGBTQIA Sangam ERG core team conducted was a quiz that asked participants to identify some great humans who belonged to the LGBTQ community. I invite my LinkedIn folks to identify one such personality with the help of the following clues: - Decrypted Nazi's secret codes during World War II. - Died from poisoning during harmone treatment that he accepted as an alternate to prison for being gay. Along with the answer, what's worth pondering over is an unfortunate fact that is in our clear view, that is, despite his genius contribution to cracking the crucial war messages of the enemy, he was prosecuted for being gay. Overtime, but not without losing lives that could have been preserved & celebrated, societies have realised to an extent, the worth of a human, inspite of their identity - sexuality, gender, class etc. Nearer home, in India, and this was another quiz question, the fastest Indian sprinter at one point came out as lesbian. It is heartening to feel the waves of change towards the right direction that corporates such as KPMG Global Services are creating. It is the hour when other organisations such as (my) school & (my) college unashamedly enable the ripples to trickle to, nudge their stakeholders & sensitize them to advocate for & appreciate inclusive spaces.
