National Monuments are an economic powerhouse for Arizona – diversifying our local economy, bringing money to our communities, and helping launch an entire outdoor recreation industry that’s grown to be nearly 3% of the state’s GDP. That makes it all the more concerning that state legislators are discussing bills that would block this tool from being used in the future. Why would we want to limit our economic growth and communities’ voices? That seems like bad business to us. #outdoorindustry #outdoorrecreation #arizonabusinesses

📢 There is an urgent need for Southern Nevada to gain more control over its land, currently over 90% owned by the federal government. This ownership limits development and stifles economic growth. Local leaders urge federal action to release more land, which would help address affordable housing issues, support renewable energy projects, and ensure economic resilience. Let’s advocate for a brighter future here in Southern Nevada! 🌟 Great article written by Steve Neiger and Jamie Thalgott! PLEASE READ: https://lnkd.in/gwjUrF2C
The cover of a section in yesterday’s (Sunday) Las Vegas Review-Journal highlights the two primary issues holding Southern Nevada’s economy back from diversification and higher paying jobs. Better education, more land. That’s it, that’s what we need. If you are a resident of SNV, I promise this is the time to read the cover stories…and not just because I co-authored one of them. The first is written by the former (for six years) Superintendent of the Clark County School District, who worked all over the country prior to coming here to run the nation’s 5th largest school district. He left the job a few months ago. We’ve lost opportunities at relocations of big, high-skilled-workforce companies (countless high-paying jobs), because of our education system. We have to address the problems and be better than we’ve been. https://lnkd.in/gZZgnt_2? The second is written by myself and Jamie Thalgott and is about how strangled Southern Nevada is by the federal government’s ownership of our county and state. We need more land. It’s been an issue for years and now we are reaching critical territory. We address water in the article too. https://lnkd.in/gJ7VnfJw Thanks for taking the time, Southern Nevada needs our voices. Thanks to Jamie Thalgott , the NAIOP Southern Nevada Board of Directors, and numerous contributors to this document, and our industry’s efforts to advocate for more land in the hands of our local governments.

TIRED OF READING POSTS ABOUT ALL THE AFFORDABLE AND WORKFORCE HOUSING BEING BUILT ALL ACROSS AMERICA? ANYTHING SHORT of PERMANENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING SOLUTIONS IS UNACCEPTABLE. TAXPAYERS CAN NO LONGER AFFORD short-sighted, conflict-ridden stakeholders, federal, state, and local government programs that cater to special interests and only "KICKS THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD" that ultimately burdens future generations. Veteran Housing Corp applauds all efforts to build affordable housing but would challenge the US Congress and every local, state, and federal housing agency or affordable housing developer to do better in 2024 and beyond. Veteran Housing Corp demands permanent affordability for all projects receiving government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or other incentives! Veteran Housing Corp demands transparency and every local, state, and federal government agency and other stakeholders MUST provide answers to questions about the housing projects that are built with government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or incentives, including the following: 1. How much funding, federal tax credits, or government benefits or incentives from all government sources did the projects receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants will not be displaced after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU
While there is no denying that the housing crisis is spreading across the country, it is encouraging that we are finding some political common ground as a nation around this issue. The mere fact that American Enterprise Institute and the Progressive Policy Institute recently hosted a joint conference on housing supply gives hope that there may be a real opportunity for innovative solutions across the political spectrum and a reminder that housing policy can't easily be broken down along the lines of the culture wars dominating the current political landscape. Keep on keeping on housers! Everyone, everywhere deserves a safe, quality, affordable place to call home.
