Very interesting discussions around the quality of teaching and learning related to staff mobility at the "Strategic approaches to Erasmus academic staff mobility" high-level conference. I was part of an expert panel on strategic approaches to staff mobility, where I talked about the results of the Teach With Erasmus project (https://lnkd.in/dvnWPrAM). Furthering the discussion on staff mobility the ACA - Academic Cooperation Association report on "Driving Impact of Erasmus Outgoing Academic Staff Mobility" (https://lnkd.in/dHPrKiT9) highlights individual and institutional impacts, among them pedagogical and scientific innovation.

I just finished giving a two-day workshop to the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) interns at Mountain Lake Biological Station! Ever since I was an REU myself in 2018, I've come back each summer to teach future REUs how to give oral presentations to a scientific audience. They have to give two 15-minute talks during the program and for many of them, it's their first talk ever! In the first session we go over the strengths and limitations of the talk as a medium (contrasting with papers and posters), how to structure a talk, and how to pitch your work in a way that is broad enough for the audience without feeling like a reach. In the second session, we workshop their pitch ideas, and then dive into the nitty-gritty of using slide design to guide and engage the audience. It was a blast as always, and I can't wait to see what the REUs come up with this year!

Twelve incredible high school interns are now published authors! The Anacostia High School students, who participated in our program, wrote poems about their experiences with the nature and wildlife they experienced. The sentiments the students share in the book highlight the vital role that youth and under-resourced communities play in saving wildlife and their habitats. “We wanted them to write about the environment through the lens of their own personal experiences as residents of Anacostia, as students of Anacostia High School, as young people, as young African Americans."
