Did you know that vertical photovoltaic systems have higher yields than their horizontal counterparts?  Vertical photovoltaic systems, particularly on walls and facades, are growing in popularity worldwide. As cities strive to reduce CO₂ emissions and enhance energy efficiencies, energy-efficient buildings and their role in environmental protection have become a hot topic. A recent study by the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), titled "Thermal model in digital twin of vertical PV system helps to explain unexpected yield gains", has now uncovered the secret behind the higher yields of vertical PV systems.    https://lnkd.in/gUSUnWbn The research highlights how temperature and the amount of light affect the yield of solar cells. Unlike horizontal systems, vertical systems maintain lower operating temperatures, resulting in less significant voltage reduction and higher energy yields.  Measurements taken in the Netherlands revealed that vertical PV systems have almost twice the heat transfer coefficient of horizontal panels, resulting in a 2.5% higher annual energy yield.   Isn't it fascinating how 'small' adjustments, such as the orientation of solar panels, can lead to substantial gains in energy production? It’s 2024, shouldn’t we have solar panels that don’t affect the architectural lines or the aesthetic expression of your building? Danish designed CIGS solar panels from Solarroof are constructed using a modern technology that utilizes copper-indium-gallium-selenide (CIGS) as the active material to absorb solar energy and convert it into electrical energy. The ultra-lightweight 3 mm solar panels utilize the entire roof surface and weigh only 2.2 kg per square metre.
