Stay with me here. Let's talk "Cross Training" when it comes to leadership.
Athletes know all about this concept. Football players will take ballet lessons to improve their posture and make them more agile on their feet. Ballet dancers will do pilates to increase core strength in different ways.
When it comes to leadership though, we either tend to rely on learning on the job (😱) or we take some classes that are specifically designed for leadership (🤓). Don't get me wrong, both of these need to happen and workshops, especially ones that are practical and timely, can be great.
But what would happen if we introduced either concepts or ideas into our leadership? I'm going to stare exploring this idea, and my first stop is with "Unreasonable Hospitality".
Will Guidara was the owner and operator of Eleven Madison when it was named the best restaurant in the world. And it wasn't because of the food (though that was amazing). It was because of a hot dog 🌭! Check out his Ted Talk for the full story.

A few things really stood out to me in his speech though. He said that his job in hospitality is "to make them feel seem, to make them feel welcome, and to give them a sense of belonging." What if leaders saw this as their work? What would happen?
He also offers 3 tactics to help achieve this state of "unreasonable hospitality".
1. Stay Present 🎁
2. Take what you do seriously without taking yourself too seriously 😂
3. One size fits ONE 1️⃣
And the benefit? He noticed that as he was practicing these things and asking his staff to as well, that it fostered incredible amount of creative autonomy. AND, that his staff was feeling so fulfilled in their work.
We all know work place satisfaction has good ROI, so my challenge to you for this week is to pick one of those three tactics and apply it to a leadership situation. See what happens :).
