The legal block of the US ban on LNG export permits to non-FTA countries is a positive development for the #LNG market and for global energy security, emissions reduction, and affordability. As we highlighted in the released last week 2024 World LNG report 👉 https://lnkd.in/eyyPhZGw , the ban has added to uncertainty in a tight market and could impact 70 mtpa of capacity. The US is the world’s largest LNG exporter, and has revolutionised the global gas market, supercharging its liberalisation by introducing great commercial flexibility in trade and contracts. The functioning of a flexible global gas market made it possible to keep the world’s energy system above water during the worst energy crisis in memory. Having open, flexible, transparent, competitive, and reliable gas markets is imperative to ensuring the success of the global energy transition and safeguarding international energy security, while markets provide the best counterbalance to the politicisation of energy supply. https://lnkd.in/eubkj6ay. #ongt Mel ( Menelaos) Ydreos, Tatiana Khanberg, Paddy Blewer, Neill Tannock, Canadian Gas Association, Didier Holleaux, Khaled Abubakr, Carlos Cortes Simon, Amir Foster, Marcel Kramer, Satoshi Yoshida, Mehdy Touil

Unpacking the misconceptions surrounding the DOE's LNG update The Department of Energy (DOE) evaluates various factors to determine whether to authorize domestic natural gas exports as liquefied natural gas (LNG) to non-Free Trade Agreement (FTA) countries, with recent updates being made to economic and environmental analyses. Given the significant growth in LNG export capacity since 2018, the DOE has paused review of pending export applications to ensure up-to-date assessments align with evolving market dynamics and potential impacts on the economy, national security, and environment. The recent pause on new LNG export licenses by the Biden administration has sparked a fiery debate 🔥. Industry leaders, including EQT Corporation CEO Toby Rice, called it a "political stunt" that risks higher emissions and global energy security 🌍. ExxonMobil CFO Kathy Mikells echoes this, suggesting it's a step back for net-zero ambitions 🚫🌱. A bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Democrats from gas-rich states like Texas and Alaska, are pushing back, urging a rethink to avoid bolstering foreign energy giants and compromising U.S. energy security 🔒. Despite this, some analysts see a silver lining, noting the LNG market could absorb this pause without much disruption, thanks to a surplus of projects under construction 🏗️. The tension highlights the delicate balance between fostering clean energy transitions and maintaining energy security and market stability 🌈⚖️. As the debate heats up, it's clear that the path to a sustainable energy future is fraught with complex challenges and critical decisions 💡🔍. #EnergyPolicy #LNGExports #CleanEnergy #NetZero #EnergySecurity #USPolitics #GlobalEnergy

SWIFT REACTION TO BIDEN Reaction to the U.S. Decision to Pause LNG Export Reviews - https://hubs.la/Q02hWPzr0 The U.S. on Friday paused approvals of pending and future permits to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to non-Free Trade Agreement countries, the biggest buyers of the U.S. fuel, to allow the Department of Energy to review LNG climate impacts. Environmentalists praised the move as long overdue. But the companies waiting for the U.S. to green light licenses to export LNG say it introduces uncertainty in customers view of U.S. supplies and could lead to use of dirtier fossil fuels. #oilandgascompanies #lng #naturalgas #oilgas #politics #bidenadministratration #usa

The #LNG export market represents a HUGE step forward for the American economy & an important new source of demand for the #USD in global trade. Casting doubt on whether the US private sector will be allowed to meet foreign LNG demand impacts (1) the willingness of domestic firms to invest in expanding export infrastructure, (2) the cost of capital for firms which do decide to invest in export infrastructure, (3) willingness of potential foreign buyers to commit to using LNG, & (4) confidence in America among foreign Allies & partners as a reliable partner.
The Biden administration’s pause on future approvals for the export of U.S. liquefied natural gas has raised questions about the long-term future of the world’s newest energy powerhouse, FP’s Keith Johnson writes.

CSIS, THE thinktank of all thinktanks, provides a series examining implications of the LNG export boom. A great read and illustration on the US domestic natural gas boom fueling the world via #lng #exports and defining national interests.
Interesting analysis from Ben Cahill on the key dynamics in the current expansion of U.S. LNG exports. We now know that natural gas buyers outside the U.S. are demanding full supply chain transparency. Recent proposals by the EU to limit methane emissions from gas imports and the CLEAN initiative launched in Asia show the direction of travel. Fortunately, the LNG industry has a low-cost, ready-made solution in MiQ Certification, which enables the industry to be fully transparent and credible on emissions, while answering the demands of buyers. https://lnkd.in/eMeJ_5Qr

Biden’s Pause on New LNG Export Permits Could Last for Months President Biden's decision to halt new liquefied natural gas (LNG) export permits has sparked a significant debate over the future of the U.S. energy sector. The pause, aimed at reassessing the environmental impact of such projects, is anticipated to endure for months, creating uncertainty within the industry. The move aligns with Biden's commitment to addressing climate change and transitioning towards cleaner energy alternatives. Critics argue that the pause could stifle economic growth and hinder the United States' position in the global energy market. LNG exports have played a pivotal role in bolstering the nation's energy independence and generating revenue through international trade. During this hiatus, industry stakeholders, environmental advocates, and policymakers are engaged in discussions to shape the future of LNG exports in the United States. The outcome of these deliberations will not only influence the energy landscape but also serve as a testament to the government's commitment to sustainable practices in the face of global climate challenges. #PGE301 #energy
