Almaty, Kazakhstan The 21st meeting of the Kazakh-Uzbek Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, co-chaired by Prime Ministers Olzhas Bektenov and Abdulla Aripov, concluded with plans to deepen economic collaboration between the two nations. Discussions held ahead of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s upcoming visit to Kazakhstan focused on a wide array of sectors, including trade, investment, energy, transport, and digitization. Highlights from the meeting revealed that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan jointly represent 57% of Central Asia’s total trade. Trade turnover between the countries reached $4.5 billion last year, with figures exceeding $1.2 billion in the first four months of 2024 alone.
