PART 2 of aside of customer is always right, EMPLOYER ALSO IS ALWAYS RIGHT ____________________________ CONVERSATION ON TELEGRAM Me: Sorry, previously this student already e-mail about the application of attachment medical student. Can you at least reply her e-mail since the student need an answer either got accepted or rejected. GM: What have you told to the student? Me: I said, we don’t have any attachment programme but you can try by direct e-mail the company and wait for the reply. GM: Have you seen any student internships in my company before? You’ve been here in my company for 1 years, didn’t you know anything? Reflect back what you said about ~I said, we don’t have any attachment programme but you can try by direct e-mail the company and wait for the reply.~ Me: Okay End of the conversation. ___ Am I so wrong about asking it? Is replying the ‘e-mail’ is NOT NECESSARY? I’m ashamed as the one who answer the call, as the one trying to be positive and supportive to that student. I am indeed disappointed.

I will like to be a medical doctor when I grow up...... During our childhood, we often shared ambitious career aspirations: to be a medical doctor, engineer, lawyer, teacher, musician, and more. It's amusing to recall how these dreams evolved over time. What drove these changes? here are some factors that influenced our career path ; 1. Exploration and Discovery: As children, we are exposed to limited information about various careers. As we grow, we learn more about different professions, leading to changes in our interests and aspirations. 2. Influence of Role Models: Our perception of certain careers can be influenced by the role models we admire or are exposed to. Interactions with professionals in different fields can shape our career choices. 3. Personal Growth and Development: As we mature, our skills, strengths, and interests may evolve, leading us to consider different career paths that align better with our current selves. 4. Educational Experiences: Formal education and experiences such as internships or volunteer work can expose us to new fields, sparking interest in previously unexplored careers. 5. Changing Priorities: Life experiences, personal values, and priorities may shift over time, leading us to prioritize different aspects of our lives, including career choices. 6. Market Trends and Opportunities: Economic factors, market trends, and job opportunities can also influence career decisions, prompting individuals to choose paths that offer stability, growth, or personal fulfillment. Some of us pursued our childhood dreams, while others ventured into entirely new territories. Reflecting on these shifts highlights the dynamic nature of life's journey and the profound impact of our experiences on shaping our professional identities. I would be most delighted to read your experience in the comment session... #CareerJourney #ProfessionalGrowth #CareerAspirations#CareerReflection#CareerDevelopment#CareerPathways#ChangingPriorities#ThatHRenthusiast

“Are you one of the med school tour guides today?” I looked up from the bathroom sink and chuckled, “You think I look the part already? In due time. It's gonna be some day ahead for us.” Jittery from a new energy drink, I merely asked some girls if this was their first rodeo too and made their acquaintances. Last month, I attended the annual pre-health conference at McGovern Medical School and participated in the airway clinic, recruitment fair, and campus tour. From role call, there were a handful of other UTD Comets, UTSA Roadrunners, SFA Lumberjacks … even some from Louisiana next door. 🚀Why go to conferences as a prospective? 1. Meet on-site admissions reps and future YOU…. whether you're exploring programs or have specific questions, everyone's there to enlighten you and enthusiastically lure you into the applicant pool. Tabling is an excellent way to learn more and with the inaugural CAA program underway soon, it is useful to get interview advice and hear what's in store in the future. 2. Hands-on career workshops: the Airway clinic was a solid extension to my shadowing and the Anesthesia 101 segment was digestible. Also learned Seldinger method for A-lines. The clip below is me squealing before struggling to intubate a baby mannequin. 3. Develop your social and hospitality skills: Exchanging life stories and ideas is a simple way to gain perspectives and pique curiosity. ⚓️Prep Tips: 1. Hydrate well and save trying new energy drinks for another setting. 2. Print out conversation starters for mingling as well as writing your own questions for reps. 3. Set a few goals to achieve during it all: meet 20 new attendees or find 3 med student vloggers, TikTokers etc. 🍪I'd also like to take a moment to plug AspiringCAA’s personal statement workshop next Monday night hosted by Sarah Whitfield (subscribe to the helpful newsletter on aspiringCAA.com!!) Stay curious and authentic

Spot on 💡 I read another post that questioned hiring based on knowing how to use tools (which becomes irrelevant once the next tool becomes available) instead of hiring for having learning agility, ability to troubleshoot, innovate thinking, etc. The narrative has to shift 🤔
Student Affairs professionals need to start talking about why we sell students on the importance and value of transferable skills, but rarely do we ever hire people with transferable skills. Instead we value people who have followed very specific, well worn, career paths. If those specific experiences are so valuable, why are we not making them part of the job requirements, or at least preferred experiences? The difference between our espoused and practiced values is dramatic and troubling.
