This groundbreaking initiative is set to revolutionize the way we recognize and trust organic products in India. Previously, we had two separate logos: the India Organic logo for products certified under the National Programme for Organic Products (NPOP) and the Jaivik Bharat logo for those certified by FSSAI. Now, with the introduction of the Unified India Organic logo, there's a single, standardized symbol representing organic authenticity. APEDA signs MoU with LuLu Group International to promote Indian Organic Products globally The government agricultural export facilitation arm Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the leading retail chain in the Middle East and Asia LuLu Group International. As part of the agreement, LuLu Group will showcase a wide range of certified Indian organic products in its stores across the United Arab Emirates (UAE). APEDA will support these efforts by facilitating connections between organic growers in India including Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) and cooperatives, and the LuLu Group. The Indian government said this arrangement will ensure that organic products reach a wider global audience. The MoU was signed in the presence of Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade and Minister in charge of Talent Attraction and Retention, Ministry of Economy, UAE, in Mumbai earlier this week. The MoU outlines several key initiatives, including dedicated shelf space in LuLu hypermarkets for Indian organic products certified under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), promotional campaigns such as product sampling, interactive events, and consumer feedback drives, Buyer-Seller Meets (BSM), B2B meetings, and trade fairs to further boost organic exports and create greater awareness about the benefits of Indian organic products, and exposure visits for Indian FPOs/ FPCs/ Cooperatives to LuLu Group’s infrastructure in the UAE to enhance understanding of international retail markets. “This partnership is expected to significantly expand the global reach of Indian organic products and contribute to the growth of organic farming in India by creating stronger linkages between Indian producers and global consumers,” the commerce ministry said in a statement. APEDA is responsible for promoting the export of scheduled agricultural and processed food products from India. It also serves as the Secretariat for the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), the regulatory framework governing organic exports from India. This strategic partnership aims to promote Indian organic products in international markets through LuLu Group’s expansive network of hypermarkets and retail outlets. Lulu Group, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has been known as a trendsetter in the retail industry in the Middle East and North Africa region. Hats off to Indonesia! At a time when several governments are regrettably moving toward scaling back dairy in their dietary recommendations or public feeding programs, Indonesia is instead charting a course in the right direction and working to increase dairy consumption given its ample nutritional benefits. They're working to launch a visionary school meals and milk program that will yield tremendous benefits for Indonesian children and make meaningful investments in the country's future human capital. USDEC's Jonathan Gardner and I were over there last week to learn more about it and offer to partner with Indonesia to help ensure the program's success. While in Jakarta we were focused on: 1) advancing work on the Indonesia-U.S. Technical Collaboration Project on Dairy - an initiative USDEC's undertaken at our CEO Krysta Harden's direction to support growth and quality enhancements by Indonesian small scale dairy farmers, and 2) exploring how the U.S. dairy industry can best support the launch of the Indonesian school milk program later this year. It was so refreshing to hear the genuine enthusiasm for dairy from the government officials and industry leaders we met with. It's rightfully a very popular plan in Indonesia: In a recent survey of public opinions on President Prabowo-Gibran’s Economic Programs: Nearly half (48.6%) of respondents said the free lunch and milk program is the most desirable program. Indonesia is one of the top 10 dairy export destinations for the U.S. already; the U.S. is a leading supplier of various dairy ingredients to Indonesian dairy and food manufacturing companies. As Indonesia works to meet its expanded dairy needs for this program both domestically and internationally, the U.S. dairy industry is committed to deepening that existing partnership even further.
