I love this article from The Age about Atlassian's new "Connection Hub" in Melbourne. This space perfectly illustrates what Atlassian, and my friend Dominic Price in particular, have been advocating for years: it’s about purpose and intentionality. Here are some key points: - Purposeful Design: The Connection Hub isn’t about cramming people in for long video conferences or deep work sessions. It’s about fostering connections, serendipity, and mixing great minds and ideas. - Part of a Larger Initiative: The hub is a vital part of Atlassian's "Team Anywhere" strategy. It complements other initiatives aimed at addressing remote work challenges, like the "meeting problem." - Quick and Experimental: I love that this hub was assembled quickly and is being treated as an experiment. Whether it succeeds or not, the learning experience will be valuable, and the cost is minimal. - Voluntary and Flexible Attendance: People come to the hub because they want to, not because they’re asked to. It’s not about perks, but about the chance to mix and collaborate. Dom sums it up well: “We’re not making a bet on remote work, we’re making a bet on flexibility, and this is our commitment to that.” Check out the full article to see how Atlassian is leading the way in creating an open, employee-centric, and innovative work culture: https://lnkd.in/eQtWSYAs #FutureOfWork #RemoteWork #Flexibility #Innovation #WorkplaceCulture #Leadership #Atlassian

Australian software giant Atlassian champions a work-from-anywhere policy, epitomizing a "distributed work" model focusing on how work occurs, irrespective of location. Their 40-page report, "Lessons Learned: 1,000 Days of Distributed at Atlassian," reveals key insights: Employee Satisfaction: 92% of Atlassian employees find the distributed work model integral, featuring zero mandated in-office days. CEO Perspective: Surveyed Fortune 500 and 1000 CEOs (99%) see distributed work as the future, predicting its continued growth. Productivity Insights: Despite mandates for in-person work, 1 in 3 CEOs concede no impact on productivity, prioritizing "how" teams work. Hybrid Challenges: Part-time in-office arrangements are labeled a policy failure, lacking the benefits of fully remote or in-office setups. Innovation Focus: Atlassian emphasizes that productivity, innovation, and creativity hinge on "how to work," transcending the impact of "where to work." #Atlassian #DistributedWork #RemoteWork 🌐✨ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/evW6B8ye

We're all familiar with why distributed/asynchronous work can be difficult for organizations... 🙈 🙉 Not being able to see a facial reaction or hear intonation 🖨 Lapses in home-grade technology 🌎 And of course time zone differences leading to calendar misalignment and missed opportunities to collaborate Refreshing to see an organization as large as Atlassian (with an ongoing test of their new working dynamic..."We had 10 buildings which each had 500 people. Now we have 500 buildings, which have 10 people in them."): 💡 Admit the shift is a work in progress, but highlight the wins 💡 Share their findings on what is working well so others may learn faster Hat tip to Ginevra Drinka, for originally reposting the recap below...great stuff! #EnterpriseCollaboration #AsynchronousWork #ReturnToOffice #RTO

And people say Aussies are direct Mike Cannon-Brookes 😂 🇦🇺 In all seriousness, and behind the headline Atlassian’s #TeamAnywhere strategy is a masterclass in distributed work. 🙌 Since 2020, Atlassians have been able to choose where they work, every single day. This decision means their workforce has become highly distributed: instead of being contained to their 12 global offices, Atlassians now collaborate from 10,000 locations. 🌏 🤝 Given that their teams are so distributed, it’s mission-critical that they got really good at collaborating online. 👩💻 While they admit openly that they don’t have everything figured out, the Atlassian team have made it a priority to use data to inform decisions, and run experiments focused on improving how they work. 👩🔬🧪 And they are already seeing clear business benefits to their evidence-based approach. 📈 Earlier this year they released the insightful and detailed report “Lessons Learned: 1,000 Days of Distributed at Atlassian” 📖👩🏫 💡Insights included: 1️⃣ High Satisfaction: 92% of Atlassians feel they can do their best work under this policy, and 91% say it’s a key reason they stay. 💓 2️⃣ Diversity Boost: The representation of women has doubled in certain geographies, showcasing a more inclusive environment. 👯♀️ 3️⃣ Office Visits: Despite no mandates, over 80% of employees visited an office quarterly, proving that physical spaces still hold value. 🏣 4️⃣ Global Collaboration: Almost all Fortune 500 executives agree that work is increasingly distributed, highlighting the need for effective online collaboration. 🤸 5️⃣ Productivity Innovations: Experiments led by the Team Anywhere Lab, such as timeboxing priorities, have significantly boosted productivity by 36%. 🏃♀️ 🤩 6️⃣ Value-Driven Workspace: Atlassian lives by its values like “Open company, no bullshit,” ensuring culture permeates regardless of physical location. 💩 You can view the full report and their findings here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gtXN9qDU https://lnkd.in/g6zWC5Qz
