May is Mental Health Awareness Month! For Christians, practicing emotional self-care can be extremely difficult. Things which benefit our mental health can often feel selfish or self-indulgent, so we avoid them out of guilt and misplaced shame. Yet our mental health affects how we think, feel and respond on a daily basis. It can even take a toll on our spiritual life if we’re not careful. #ChristianMentalHealth #FaithAndWellness #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #SpiritualWellbeing #ChristianCounseling #FaithBasedHealing #PrayerAndHealing #MentalHealthMatters #ChristianSupport #HopeAndHealing #JesusChrist

As we approach the conclusion of Mental Health Awareness Month, it is crucial to remember that managing a mental illness is a continuous journey for those affected. The heightened awareness in May can lead to an increase in diagnoses, offering more individuals the opportunity to seek the help they need. Receiving a mental illness diagnosis can be overwhelming, evoking a range of emotions such as fear, sadness, anger, denial, and even relief. These feelings are often intensified by the persistent stigma surrounding mental health issues. We encourage you to take the time to understand the stages of this process and be patient with yourself or your loved ones. There is no rush to 'figure it all out' immediately. Adjusting to a diagnosis takes time, and that’s perfectly okay. Together, we can continue to foster understanding and support for mental health throughout the entire year. #mentalhealth

Ask yourself "how am I today?" - this helps detect any signs of a downward trajectory in mood and where possible, we can then ask ourselves "what do I need right now?" In my opinion and I have shared this before, mental health can be on a spectrum ranging from great to poor, this can fluctuate daily/weekly; however, this doesn't mean mental illness. Unmanaged poor mental health can tip some people into mental illness - major depressive disorder and anxiety as examples. For those of us who have experienced mental illness, such as depression and debilitating anxiety, it is important we are always monitoring how we feel. Knowing the signs allows for appropriate interventions where possible. #anxiety #depression #cptsd #ptsd #mdd #mentalillness #mentalhealth
