A big thank you to our hol3health team and my co-moderator Regina Taylor, MPH, our panelists, Jenny Yu, MD FACS, Kendell Cannon, MD, and Julia Iyasere MD, MBA, and our 100 registrants for contributing to a thought-provoking and inspiring session at the Breaking Barriers Webinar 2023! Your expertise and engagement brought invaluable perspectives to the forefront of healthcare disparities, with a special focus on women's health. 🔍 Diving Deep into Critical Topics: Challenges in Women's Health: Tackling barriers to accessibility and inclusivity. Innovations in Healthcare: Embracing equitable and advanced solutions. Empowerment and Access: Strategies for improving health outcomes. Technology and Healthcare Integration: The role of AI and digital tools. Career Growth in Healthcare: Navigating the path of professional development. 🗨️ Impactful Quotes: Reflecting on Health Equity, Julia Iyasere MD, MBA insightfully noted, "To truly achieve health equity, we need to integrate social determinants of health into our care models. The work that we do in the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Dalio Center for Health Justice is really focused on identifying some of those gaps in both medical and non-medical factors like housing, food, access to the healthcare system, and more. Particularly now, we're seeing consecutive rises in food insecurity post-COVID and difficulty with housing across the country. So, focusing on housing, food, transportation, financial stability, access to education is crucial, not only for women's health but for all of our health." Reflecting on the importance of co-creation and patient empowerment, Jenny Yu, MD FACS highlighted the following: "Self-efficacy is crucial, especially for women who often prioritize caring for others over themselves. It's important to have systems in place that encourage women to think about their own care. This involves not only education and literacy that engages women but also providing tools that empower them to feel that their actions lead to positive outcomes. We need to consider the different phases of a woman's life and how each demands different types of energy and resources to ensure self-efficacy." Kendell Cannon, MD emphasized the importance of embracing curiosity and being open to unexpected paths in one's career, "Curiosity is key here, but also just a recognition that my path did not look anything like I thought it would. And so when you go into medicine, when you go into your career, you often have this idea of like here's where I'm going. I would encourage you just to lean in to those places that you find spark joy for you and that you feel like that curiosity is really excited and energized and your career path will go places you never imagined, that you didn't even know existed. And that's the one thing that I would encourage you to do is just lean into that journey instead of being so set on where you think you're going." Why are clinical trials failing to reach their participant diversity goals? One reason could be a lack of employee diversity among sites and sponsors. A multicultural team provides valuable cultural insights and competence, enabling them to address language barriers, cultural beliefs, and practices that may affect patient engagement and adherence to trial protocols. In our latest #blog, we dive into the results of the annual WCG Avoca Industry Survey that highlight how the lack of diversity among sites and sponsors hinders the achievement of participant diversity goals in clinical trials. I had a great discussion with OPEN MINDS Circle last week about how we launched same day access services at Diversus Health. Making same day access services more widely accessible is a huge asset for communities across the country. A few key takeaways from my discussion with time with OPEN MINDS Circle included: -The importance of setting realistic new service timelines and goals -Why frontline staff should always be included in decision-making and how to prevent staff fatigue -The importance of aligning necessary resources when launching a new service line and why it’s okay to delay a project if the company is not ready. If you didn’t have a chance to tune in and are an OPEN MINDS Circle Elite member, watch the recording here:

Latino Health | Digital Health Equity | Co-Founder & CEO of Latino Health Innovation Alliance & SaludConTech | Clinical Innovator
Reimagining Healthcare Through Community and Digital Inclusion It was inspiring to share our story at @Techqueria's Latiné Heritage Month Summit today and connect with so many brilliant, passionate Latino/a leaders working to reimagine healthcare in our communities. But the internet access that made this all possible should not be a privilege but a right. The World Wide Web is not just a means of connectivity but an essential lifeline to resources in education, healthcare, employment, and entertainment. A recent study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), found that Black and Latinx families with children with chronic health conditions were less likely to have internet access, with only 64.5% of Latinx parents having reliable, high-speed internet. In contrast, White parents had a higher access rate at 88.8%. The FCC's decision to raise the monthly broadband benefit from $30 to $75 under the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a significant step towards creating a more digitally inclusive society and improving healthcare access. Many are unaware of the program, so it’s up to us to spread the word. The collaboration between public and private sectors, alongside innovative programs such as The Digital Compañero Program and organizations like SaludConTech and The Latino Health Innovation Alliance (LHIA), is critical. The recent #NationalLatinoPhysicianDay highlighted the stark reality of our underrepresentation in the medical field. Yet this gap extends beyond physicians and reflects barriers to entering the healthcare workforce at all levels. To genuinely build digital health equity and address the social determinants of health, we require a broader representation of Latino healthcare professionals — doctors, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, and innovators — all working together in unison. Together, we can break down the barriers that stand in the way of equitable healthcare access and create a more inclusive digital landscape for all. Your support and engagement are invaluable in driving this mission forward. ¡Sí, se puede! #DigitalInclusion #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #HealthDisparities #SocialDeterminantsofHealth #SDOH #DigitalHealthEquity #LatinoHealth #LatineInnovators #LatinaFounders https://lnkd.in/eReGmYmh

We help to create, prolong and improve lives 'AsOne for Patients’. Our mission never gets old and it’s a good reminder to everyone. That is why this year the #Benelux colleagues (Belgium and the Netherlands) came together for two days of #collaboration and #innovation. This inspiring event allowed us to align on our priorities for 2024 and enhance team engagement and cooperation. What have we reinforced? 👩🏽🤝👩🏼Team work and cross-functional teams discussed and aligned strategies for the upcoming year. 🔌Patient Centricity was a key topic for discussion and we had the chance to learn insights from Francois Feig, Head of Mid Europe Healthcare, and a cross-functional team. 🥼 With the focus on Multiple Sclerosis patients we have listened from Professor Popescu, Veronica neurologist specialized in Multiple Sclerosis, and Van Dael, Veerle, Multiple Sclerosis nurse 🚀 We finalized with an inspirational keynote speech entitled Will It Make The Boat Go Faster?, where we explored how to translate our ambition for delivering the best solutions for patients into actionable steps, every day for all team members. Smart Meetings Innovator Award Recipient | 3x LinkedIn Top Voice | Speaker & Thought Leader | Data-Driven Storyteller | Event Strategist | Delivering Transformative & Impactful Solutions
Day 3 at Pharma Forum, and I'm still riding the emotional high. We kicked things off on day 1 with a promise to really listen and empathize, and wow, did we stick the landing up until the final day. The waterworks weren't a joke today. Between an unforgettable CSR gig with Cheeriodicals | Team Building That Matters leading the pack (and leading with heart) to an eye-opening session with Dr. Erika Michalski, it was a day of real feelings. And yes, between the sequins, bubbles, and all the fun, the heart of the message hit hard. Participating in the Cheeriodicals activity, I was all in - selfie tripod in hand, of course. But beyond the clicks and shares, there was this profound moment of realization. Thinking about the child who'd receive my box, the joy it might bring... it was something else. Big love to Cheeriodicals for spreading that joy. And Dr. Erika, she made me rethink my "bubbly optimistic" badge that I wear all too often, even when that's not how I'm really feeling. Life's not always sequins and good vibes; it's tough, messy, and real. Her talk on toxic positivity and making space for all feelings, not just the cheerful ones, tugged hard on the heartstrings. It's about truly caring, about lifting each other in this heavy, beautiful life. And how FAB-U-LOUS were her sequins pants!?! 😍 Couldn't have asked for a better end. Kudos to the Informa Connect Life Sciences team for a genuinely impactful conference. Here's to bringing all we've learned and felt into our everyday. #pharmaforumsgoingtoBoston2025! #pharmaforum #eventsprofs #medicalmeetings #meetingsandevents

🌟 Reflecting on an incredible discussion at the Caring for Rare Conference, where we delved into the vital role of young patient advocates. 🌟 I’m deeply honored to have been part of this panel, and I’m immensely grateful for the insights shared by fellow advocates and our engaged audience. 🙌 The Power of Youth: We young advocates bring a unique perspective and boundless energy to the world of patient advocacy. Our passion is a driving force, and our digital-savvy generation knows how to harness the power of social media to raise awareness and inspire change. 💪 Facing Challenges Head-On: Advocating for rare diseases can be an uphill battle. We’ve all faced skepticism, navigated complex medical systems, and grappled with misunderstandings. But these challenges only strengthen our resolve. Every obstacle we overcome is a step towards a brighter future for patients like us. ⚖️ Balancing Acts: Many of us balance advocacy with education, work, and other commitments. We’ve experienced discrimination and exclusion along the way. But our determination keeps us moving forward, pushing for a more inclusive world where no one is left behind. 🤝 Collaboration is Key: Collaboration between young advocates and established patient advocacy organizations is a game-changer. By combining the experience of seasoned advocates with the innovative ideas of youth, we create a formidable force for change. 🌍 The Future We Envision: As we look ahead, I see a future where patient advocacy is stronger than ever, thanks to the involvement of young advocates. We will ensure that our voices are not just heard but valued by academia, medical specialists, and decision-makers. Together, we will make a difference. I’m excited about the path forward and eager to see the incredible impact we can create. Let’s continue to connect, collaborate, and drive positive change for rare disease patients worldwide.
