As a Recruiter, I talk to a lot of people — candidates, leadership, colleagues, vendors, etc. The questions I get often are “why did you join Osano?” and “what is it like to work at Osano?” To boil it all down, I tend to frame it as why I work at startups. TL;DR: it’s the builder, creator, and initiator in me. I build from my experience and I put those idea to pavement. You can think all you want about a problem, but it’s the taking action on the solution that is EVERYTHING in a startup. I got into the startup space a full 10 years ago and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Having been in non-profit arts, specifically opera ballet, I really needed something different. The chaos, constantly moving faster than you hope, and taking on newer, bigger challenges you never dreamed of — it’s something so special ✨ Granted, it’s important you’re around great people — who are incredibly talented, thoughtful, and take action. In my experience, the people make or break the whole thing, with culture being a strong #2. A few of the biggest things I hear about the Osano team: 🤝 we’re supportive — people go out of their way to help each other out 💜 we’re mission purpose-driven — we’re building something that makes society better! 🙌 we’re inclusive actively look for people who are different from us 🎯 we’re autonomous and give everyone a level of trust to do our work Startups aren’t for everyone though. How Samolet Plus Global works: our team and processes #HIRING I have already mentioned how much you need to take into account in order to launch a business in a new market. In order not to lose sight of anything, you need a clear and thoughtful team structure. At Samolet Plus Global we have several main departments: Research and launches Samolet Plus has just started entering international markets, that is why it is crucial to conduct a thorough research before launching our product abroad. Project office Project managers help at the launch stage with legal, tax and other issues. They also manage communication between the departments. Distribution My colleagues are responsible for the processes that are already running. They are directly engaged in business development in a new market and onboarding new partners. Product and development So far, these two units make up one department as Samolet Plus Global does not have a large structure. But as we grow, we will divide this department into two separate blocks. We already see the urge to open several more departments: a backup office, a quality control unit and etc. And we are also in need of local teams on the ground. After the hardest 3 months of Customer Service I have ever experienced, LuxDeco has gone into Liquidation. What a learning experience it has been. Three months in a business under incredible pressure, with over 150 urgent escalations in my inbox at any one time and a lack of solutions, taught me the meaning of resilience 😅 One bright spot stands out like mad, and that is Lorenzo Carbi - the CS manager I was given on week 2, frustrated at not having interviewed him myself, turned out to be the exact CS Manager I needed working with me. He is cool, calm and collected at all times and once he says he'll do something, it gets done. I didn't have to spend an ounce of much needed energy micro-managing him; he's that golden type of guy that brings you answers and points out bumps in the road you might have missed. What's more, he looks after his team 😍 Do me a favour, especially those of you who know me well, and add Lorenzo to your network. Like this post, comment on it for your networks. 🙏 If you know someone who needs a great manager either remotely or near Wimbledon/Richmond/Twickenham/Kingston/Central then even better! Asking for things is my achilles heel, it gives me the ick (I'm still working on it) but seeing Lorenzo out of work is a crime I can't tolerate. I really mean it - he is one of the best Managers I have seen in CS, and I have worked with some utter legends who wowed me over the course of 2 or 3 years. 🌍✈️ Reflecting on the past two weeks, I’m reminded of why I love my role as Lead of Customer Onboarding and Deployments at OpsVeda. From Apodaca, Mexico to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the travel over the past couple of weeks has been both exhilarating and enlightening. My first stop was sunny Apodaca, Mexico, where I helped demo our platform to a broad audience at a prospect's factory office. Engaging with a diverse group of professionals across many departments in such a vibrant city, I leveraged my ability to listen actively and adapt effectively, ensuring our message was clear and impactful, all while emphasizing the power and impact of our product to engineer change. Next, in stunning Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I had the opportunity to support our Sales team by demoing a module I have spent many years working on and building. It was incredibly rewarding to see how my work could directly aid our sales efforts and resonate with potential clients. The in-person touch is definitely different and magical — not only to connect with clients and prospects but also to better understand their pain points. These experiences have underscored the value of being prepared, flexible, and client-focused. It’s not just about presenting a product but about understanding and addressing the unique needs of each audience. Looking forward to more adventures and opportunities to learn and grow.
