Thank you to Mandy McLaren and the Boston Globe Media for including us in their resource list for #anxiety and #OCD services for children in #Massachusetts. We specialize in treating young patients whose anxiety or OCD is causing impairment in life (i.e., school avoidance, restriction of activities, social isolation, family disruption, and physical manifestations). Each patient's dedicated care team of a psychiatrist, therapist and exposure coach guides patients as they face their fears in the real world, using everyday tools like text, phones, and video chat to stay connected in real-world situations. We understand the importance of system-based care. Our care teams communicate with the patient’s support system, including the pediatrician, school resources, and family, to identify effective ways to provide support and create a community of care. https://lnkd.in/ehJxcUFK

The quality of our relationships determine the quality of health. So how do we have more connected relationships ? Our experience in our early relationships with parents and carers shapes our understanding of how to navigate relationships. When I work with parents I see them try so hard not to repeat patterns they witnessed that they didn’t like and try so hard to give their kid’s experiences they didn’t have and desperately wanted. Somehow things seems to get prickly when kids turn to adolescents. Parents are left mystified and confused. Frustrated and disappointed. So I create this course to help ease this transition for parents. I’ve accumulated some of my best work into this course. I’m bringing together some of the most influential things I learned as family therapist and teen therapist, into this course in a format that is accessible for busy folk. Listen to is while driving or watch the videos up to you. There’s also a workbook with activities to help get you moving with practical things you can do. In my work I have observed how people parent based on their own experiences being parented so in this course we take a look at that. We also explore values and what’s important and how to incorporate them into your parenting. Understanding adolescent development and building connection. Lots of goodies on demand in your own time AND a live Q&A to ask questions It’s NEVER to late to improve relationships https://lnkd.in/gi26isCS

High-Impact Clinical Social Worker || Outpatient Mental Health Therapist at Puglisi Counseling LLC 🛋️✨
Do you know a teen who is in need of mental health care? 🛋️ A study in JAMA Pediatrics that suggests 50% of children with a mental health condition in the United States go without treatment. While disappointing, this is not surprising as children’s mental health has historically been a disenfranchised population within community based healthcare. Lack of qualified providers and low service access have been trending upward due to high clinician burnout rates and the overall higher acuity involved with children’s services. This issue is compounded within the context of the already overtaxed state of mental health and community care professions. As there continues to be a lack of quality mental health care throughout the country, social work and counseling programs are increasingly seeking to attract and incentivize more professionals to seek training. Millersville University of Pennsylvania recognized this, and has such a program for social work students. Hopefully with increased training and attention to mental health across public and private sectors, more options will become available within the next 10 years. Children and adolescents who have historically been marginalized from mental health care would also benefit from increased support and intervention at the school and intramural level. Currently higher student/teacher ratios and staffing shortages contribute to difficulty identifying and addressing the source of behavioral dysfunction at the frontlines. Check out this interview with Penn State Health Dr. James Waxmonsky about coverage gaps in teen populations. 📲 Puglisi Counseling has immediate openings for telehealth ages 3 . The correlation between mental health and physical health is obvious in research, and yet, we still compartmentalize them into separate categories and treatment plans, forgetting the relationship they have with each other. Numerous research studies show that anxiety has a direct impact on health outcomes for individuals. This particular article from the Journal of Pediatric Nursing focuses on how anxiety is associated with higher HbA1c level, a lab test measuring the amount of glucose attached to the red blood cells and used as a way to monitor a diabetic's health risks and assess health status over the past couple of months. This study found that youth with Type 1 Diabetes with higher anxiety, were found to have higher HbA1c levels, poorer self-management, poorer coping, depressive symptoms, fear of hypoglycemia, and lower blood glucose monitoring frequency. This is why mental health support is critical for children and teens facing a chronic diagnosis. Not only does every child deserve access to the health care they need, but every child also deserves easy access to mental health care to improve their health outcomes. Don't wait until your child becomes anxious or depressed to seek services. Early intervention and proactive mental health support can help your child maintain a healthy coping status, and thus maintain or improve their health status. 📢 Stay updated on the latest trends and research in student wellbeing and behavior management. Today, we delve into compelling statistics of the children’s mental health crisis in the UK. Recent findings from a survey of NHS trust leaders paint a dire picture: mental health services for children and young people are in crisis. An alarming 100% of NHS trust leaders report a surge in demand compared to just six months ago. Key highlights reveal the severity of the situation: 80% describe the increase in demand as "significant," particularly in critical areas like eating disorder services, where a staggering 85% cannot keep up. Shockingly, two-thirds are failing to meet the demand for both community and inpatient CAMHS. The impact is starkly visible in emergency departments, with rising numbers of young individuals presenting with severe mental health issues such as self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Some trusts report a staggering 50% increase in such cases. The pandemic has exacerbated this crisis, with 88% attributing the surge in demand to the increased complexity of cases. Additionally, 42% cite an additional demand due to Covid-19-related issues. However, challenges extend beyond the pandemic, with barriers including a lack of suitable social care provision (42%), insufficient patient beds (36%), and critical staff shortages (33%). Educators, as frontline observers, play a vital role in recognizing and addressing these challenges. Your understanding and advocacy are crucial in ensuring that the mental health needs of our children and young people receive the attention and support they desperately require. Share this critical information and join the call to action to prioritize and strengthen children's mental health services. #ChildrensMentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #EducationForChange.

Great to see the opening of 102 new mental health beds at Joondalup Health Campus. This expansion is a significant step toward enhancing mental health care accessibility in our community. While these new beds are a positive stride, we also recognise the vital role of community organisations in providing peer-led support like WA Recovery College Alliance (WARCA). These initiatives provide lived experience support, offering a holistic approach that complements clinical care. WARCA empowers individuals with education, skills, and tools, turning them from patients to empowered students of their own recovery journey. It's about building resilience and fostering empowerment in the long run. As we celebrate this progress, let's remember that comprehensive mental health care involves both clinical care and community-driven initiatives. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those seeking support. #MentalHealthMatters #CommunitySupport #RecoveryCollege
