This week marks Dementia Action Week in the UK, and The Guardian has reported that dementia care could cost the UK over £90 billion by 2040, according to a report published by the @Alzheimer’s Society. At Tunstall, our vision is a world where people have the freedom to live life to the fullest in a place of their choice. Technology can enable those living with dementia the freedom to live more independently. Together, through tech-enabled care, we believe we can help address these costs, not only across the UK but across the world. 👉 Learn more about how technology can support the challenges associated with Dementia and download our ebook 'Together Against Dementia' here https://lnkd.in/dAX_YnUP #Dementia #DementiaActionWeek #Alzheimers

What makes something Dementia Friendly? Interested to hear thoughts? Question I got asked recently and considering the diverse types of dementia and individual variations, complexities how can you possible call something, an object, a place, an area Dementia friendly? Really difficult to cater generically across the board, In our dementia-friendly ambulance project, we’ve engaged with thousands of people in the community both Dementia and local to create what we and feedback so far think are positive, impactful, localised adaptations: 🚑 Tailored Environments: Our ambulances feature specialised graphics and sensory enhancements for familiar, soothing surroundings. 🎵 Memory Stimulation: Local community advised music USBs evoke positive memories and reduce anxiety during transport. 📘 Community Collaboration: By collaborating closely with local communities, we ensure our solutions meet specific localised needs. #dementia #reminisce #nhs #healthcare Dementia UK Alzheimer's Society Glenys Hunt Nat Gavin NHS Supply Chain Kayleigh Natalie Evans Andy Pike Nicola Williamson

We love that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' new GUIDE model aims to improve how both dementia patients and caregivers access healthcare support systems. As care model innovation continues and the GUIDE model is tested, healthcare administrators and leadership have the opportunity to continue to look beyond the technical details of implementation to center the needs of the people impacted by the solution. Design thinking, closely interconnected and often used interchangeably with human-centered design, offers a way to identify the barriers to care model implementation and its methodologies align with the tenets of care model innovation such as iterative prototyping, data-driven decision-making, and interdisciplinary and patient collaboration and co-creation. We’re excited to see how this important effort will evolve over time! #HumanCenteredDesign #HealthcareInnovation #CareModels #PatientExperience #DementiaCare

88% of GPs in the UK believe that people living with dementia who can remain in their own homes will lead more fulfilling lives, according to a recent survey conducted on behalf of the Longitude Prize on Dementia team. The research was undertaken to understand better the appetite amongst primary care doctors for using technology in helping people and families affected by dementia. Between now and next summer, the semi-finalists will work with people living with dementia and their carers to refine their solutions before the five most promising ideas progress to the final stages of the competition. Lighting isn't just about brightness; it's a crucial factor in enhancing the well-being of those with dementia. Strategic placement of light can aid navigation and define spaces, making areas like dining rooms more inviting. The placement of lighting can also help reduce shadows under furniture which residents with dementia might perceive as holes they could fall into. Research indicates that quality lighting not only slows cognitive decline but also reduces depression in dementia patients. Aim for a minimum light level of 300 lux, with intense white light over 1000 lux, rich in blue light, to boost cognitive function. Consider sky panels with blue light to minimize glare and create a soothing ambience reminiscent of blue skies, promoting a sense of calm year-round. ________________________________________________________________________________ Join us this Dementia Action Week as we share insights on optimizing home spaces for those with dementia. Dementia Care Settings: When Smaller is Bigger Our latest blog in our dementia series https://lnkd.in/gZUJT2nS. A care home is a home away from home that still looks and feels like home, rather than an institutional setting. Residential care homes offer unique benefits, thanks to their small size and care models. Among the primary advantages of a smaller long-term residential setting for dementia patients is the enhanced level of personal care. Smaller residential settings typically serve fewer residents, which allows care staff the ability to provide more individualized, customized attention to residents. What sets one apart from the other is delivery of care and the quality of care. Patient-centered care. Best-class service. Passionate advocacy on behalf of its residents. Each must be at the foundation of the care your loved one deserves. Our Blog Series provide valuable insights and actionable strategies for healthcare providers, doctors, nurses, estate planning attorneys, and anyone involved in senior care. https://lnkd.in/gZUJT2nS Our Summer Special Issue is centered around the theme of "Healthy Aging in Arizona: Opportunities for the Senior Healthcare System." is accessible at https://rb.gy/bt6il
