More great partnerships being created out there. Businesses and individuals in the Stroud Landscape Project area are seeing habitats becoming linked up over a large area. It is growing and it is happening! If you know anyone who would like to be a part of this, do encourage them to get in contact. In a world that seems so challenging, there is something significant here, something good. Well done Calcot! Here's to more following your lead. https://lnkd.in/eXs5i8sw

'What should re-wilding look like in Australia'? - there's a fine question to ponder over the looming Xmas and New Year holidays. Does all the good restoration work happening in Australia fit into the concept of 're-wilding'? In this podcast Tristan Derham explores those questions, with some reference to Gondwana Link along the way. In the northern hemisphere 're-wilding' generally focuses on large animals, often carnivores. Is that different from landscape scale restoration? What about the plants and birds and spiders and ants and beetles? And fungi! We tend to see the discipline of re-wilding as a subset of what is being achieved across Gondwana Link, but just to be difficult we've come up with a new name. After 21 years of substantial revegetation (restoration plantings) across the Link, we're planning for 2024 to be the year we start active refaunacation. Now there's a word that could catch on! See you in 2024. https://lnkd.in/dwgsudpN

Recently, I participated in a panel discussion which focused on rangeland restoration in East Africa. The discussion contributed to identifying major bottlenecks in restoration, key gaps in restoration knowledge and practice, barriers and enablers to scaling, and potential synergies among ongoing rangeland restoration efforts in the region.

I admire how Rob Kater is leveraging native plant relocation in a way that can support native plant and wildlife habitat as a for-profit industry. We lived in the Arizona Sonoran Desert, not far from Phoenix, for five years. I know the area well. Amazing, unique, and breathtaking natural landscapes. I regularly witnessed clearing of native plants and removal of wildlife habitat in deference to development. We have to make room for businesses that are going to create better work, tools, and economy. Dollars are the arbiter of livelihood. And because dollars are the arbiter of livelihood, we remove the ecosystems that are fundamentally necessary for life. As I see it, the answer has to be centralizing ecosystem services into the work, tools, and economy. Native Resources International seems to be doing just that. Read more https://lnkd.in/g6FCphqc
