PROJECT SPOTLIGHT! 🚧 The Genesee Transportation Council and the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Genesee-Finger Lakes region completed an initial Regional Goods Movement Strategy in 2012. The 2012 Strategy provided a comprehensive analysis of freight transportation and developed recommendations to improve goods movement in the region. Now, over ten years later, GTC is updating to reassess freight priorities and needs across the nine-county region encompassing Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates Counties. I’m all for change & progress but some things just need to be left “as is”. Small town rural areas shouldn’t be the golden ticket for transportation solutions. For example, prepping a scenic and historic road for future heavy weights (or even just prepping it for more traffic) shows the lack of preservation, disfavor of community and inadequate hauling channels already in place. Hadleyparkerstudy.com is a proposed plan that would demolish the remaining early settlers of Will County’s existence as well as cut directly through homes and farms. I understand we need road improvements, but let’s tone it down a bit and get back to the basics. Todays the last day to go online and give feedback which will be saved to the public records. https://lnkd.in/eEUmSbKW

The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is seeking public input on its 2024 transportation plan, Connect SoCal, but critics argue that the proposed projects contradict state driving reduction goals and lack alignment with ambitious promises for bike lanes and sustainable development. Despite SCAG's ambitious claims, concerns arise from the predominant focus on road projects and a potential failure to meet California Air Resources Board (CARB) targets for reducing vehicle miles traveled (VMT). https://lnkd.in/grKWTDeV #ConnectSoCal #SCAGTransportation #DrivingReduction #SustainableMobility #CARBtargets

Global Business Area Program Manager - Mobility at Arcadis - Transformation, Strategy, Growth, Equality. Revolutionizing and Building the Future of Infrastructure
Let's shine a light on the outstanding achievement of the City of Douglas, Arizona, celebrated as another one of our esteemed #ThrivingCommunities! Their remarkable success in securing the $23,518,381 #RAISE grant for the Commercial Transportation Infrastructure Enhancement Project: Addressing Safety, Equity, and Connectivity calls for jubilation. Positioned as a rural disadvantaged area, this project stands as a beacon of hope, poised to revolutionize the very essence of this border community. This groundbreaking initiative will sow the seeds of transformation through the funding of a Complete Street study, coupled with the design and execution of recommended Complete Street enhancements and state-of-the-art repair interventions covering approximately 7.8 miles across ten pivotal roadways within the City. The comprehensive improvements encompass a spectrum of enhancements, ranging from pavement resurfacing to the installation of pedestrian facilities, safety measures, traffic flow optimization, and drainage upgrades. By championing Complete Streets solutions, this project will fortify the safety of both motorized and non-motorized travelers, significantly reducing fatalities and severe injuries, particularly amidst the bustling truck traffic navigating downtown streets to and from the existing Port of Entry at the U.S./Mexico border. The strategic redirection of truck routes away from the city center is poised to not only bolster safety but also lay the foundation for a vibrant, pedestrian-centric downtown renaissance. Furthermore, this endeavor will enhance air quality in a region grappling with elevated asthma rates, while championing environmental preservation through the reclamation of old mining landfills. The multifaceted improvements will revolutionize mobility within the city's transportation ecosystem, with bilingual signage serving as a testament to inclusivity and community cohesion. With unwavering pride, the City of Douglas embarks on a transformative journey toward safety, equity, and interconnectedness, setting new standards of excellence for all to admire. Our Team (The Ray Highway, Arcadis, InfraStrategies LLC, and Beverly A. Scott, Ph.D. ) was proud to support you on this initiative through the #USDOT Thriving Communities program. #bettertogether #transportation #mobility #inclusivity #completestreets #connectivity #safety #grants #funding #portofentry #bordertown

Harnessing Local Communities’ Power for Safe Roads and Streets Road safety programs initiated, managed, and delivered at the local level offer numerous advantages: 📍 Local Knowledge is Key: Local insights play a crucial role in identifying problem areas on the road network. As road safety measures evolve to become more proactive, pinpointing high-risk locations before serious accidents occur becomes increasingly vital. 🤝 Strong Community Links: Local governments boast robust connections within their communities, tapping into well-established networks to drive road safety initiatives forward. 👥 Mobilising Community Resources: Community groups have the unique ability to rally resources for road safety efforts in ways that larger programs cannot replicate. 📢 Advocacy at All Levels: Community groups serve as powerful advocates, elevating local concerns to the attention of government bodies at every level. 🏘️ Community Led Planning: By tapping into the community’s local knowledge and expertise more feasible and relevant road safety plans and designs could be developed. ✔️ High Ownership and Acceptance: Participation in community programs cultivates a sense of ownership, enhancing the uptake of road safety messages among residents while directly addressing local issues, leading to a high level of acceptance and support for community-driven initiatives. Let's work together to make our roads safer for everyone. #RoadSafety #CommunityInitiatives #LocalImpact #ActiveTravel #SafeJurneysSustainableFuture #LocalCommunity Mohammad Rasooli Hafez Alavi www.haconsulting.com.au Source: Austroads' Guide to Road Safety Part 7, 2021

Even with an influx of traffic, incidents on Government Street have dropped significantly. This data comes from a recently released Substack post from BRAC Manager of Economic and Policy Research Jake Polanksy. This post highlights how the completion of roads and more approval on development projects could improve key corridors in the Capital Region. With emerging data like this, another success story about Baton Rouge is being created right before us. As road improvements and development projects continue to keep our region on the rise, residents can expect corridors like Government Street to be more attractive and have accessibility to more forms of transportation like walking, biking, and public transit.
