Excited to share Professor Rose Luckin's role on the International Panel at the heart of the AI in Education community at the Bourne Education Trust, ensuring we remain up to date with the role AI is playing in education on the global stage. The panel consists of members from North and South America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, the UAE and India, and aims to provide an overview of AI in education practices, polices and impact at a global level. The panel will foster dialogue between nations, provide insight into the application and impact of AI in Education internationally and share resources. More ASU GSV reflections: * Many presenters and panelists were clear-eyed about the opportunities, risks, and limitations of AI in education. Some organizations, however, seem to be incorporating AI into their products or instruction without adequate research or safeguards prior to doing so. * To my fellow edtech founders, I'd caution that you would do well to avoid conducting a mass experiment on students without doing a research study first to establish the benefits and mitigate any risks or downsides. Especially if your solution is used by protected populations such as minors. * To K-12 district partners who do not yet have a policy on AI, you might consider asking your edtech suppliers to disclose if and how they use AI in their products, what research procedures were used (and with what population), and what were the findings. * I do think there is amazing potential at all levels of education as the technology develops -- we have lots of great ideas for using LLMs, ASR, and even computer vision on our Speak Agent platform! -- but let's remember it's very early days and our first rule as we find ways to harness the power of AI needs to be "do no harm."
