As we continue to celebrate #PrideMonth and Insight's OUTsight ERG, meet Maya Frid. Maya offered her advice on career, mentorship, and more. ❓What do you do at Insight? (Maya) I'm an analyst on the Capital Partnerships team. I support our team's fundraising efforts by handling the scheduling and logistics for all of our LP diligence sessions, both virtual and in-person, as well as logistics for many of our LP-facing events, such as the AGM. I really enjoy this role because it gives me the chance to meet and interact with many different members of our firm across all levels. 🧠 What is one thing you wish you had known when you began your career? (Maya) One thing I wish I realized earlier in my career was the importance of being proactive. I used to think that keeping my head down and working hard would be enough for me to get noticed and grow in my roles, but now I know that nobody is going to pluck you out of obscurity and put the opportunity in your hand. You have to take the initiative and be vocal about what you want. You can't be afraid of hearing the word "no" — if you won't ask for it, you won't get it. 🤝 Talk about a significant mentorship moment in your life. (Maya) One person who had a huge influence on me was a female partner at the law firm where I worked right out of college. I'm a first-generation immigrant to the U.S. and neither of my parents work in a corporate environment, so as a recent college grad, her guidance was extremely helpful to me in learning how to navigate the corporate sphere. She gave me advice on everything from dress code to the nuances of interpersonal relations, and she never made me feel silly for asking questions. One particular piece of advice that stayed with me was the benefit of building relationships and surrounding yourself with a network of supportive people who are willing to give honest feedback to help you grow. That same network empowered me to make the change from working in the legal industry to finance, which brought me to Insight.

Founder of PitchDoctor and ex VC (Icebreaker, Creandum, LocalGlobe) I help founders get 10x better at pitching venture capitalists. Follow me for posts about startups, and fundraising.
A 21 y/o applying for a job at McKinsey will practice more than 99% of founders do before they ask for $5m dollars. Absurd 😂 . Yet founders wonders why they didn't get money. The main reason founders don't practice (other than being stubborn) is that it's hard to find people to practice with. To fix this - I'm creating a community where founders can practice with other vetted founders. And it's completely free! It lets you: 1. Practice with a vetted group of founders who are at the same stage as you 2. Receive feedback without wasting VC meetings 3. Know where your message isn’t resonating 4. Learn from others’ successes and failures 5. Get my proprietary framework for judging pitches BONUS - If you join now you get a FREE 1-on-1 practice session with me Join here - https://lnkd.in/ezz5KnqD

MIdweek Motivation #6 Wishing you self-esteem so high, you stay humble. In my early career, I saw two stark contrasts: 1️⃣ An Audit firm partner angrily tossing papers of an intern's work. 2️⃣ A Finance Director offering me water, lunch, and patience during my nervous first client audit presentation, even while dismissing my findings!! These moments taught me a powerful lesson: With seniority often comes greater humility. The real measure of success isn't just in titles or grandeur, but in kindness and humility. Here's to growing with grace and humility in our careers and lives! #SelfEsteemAndHumility #CareerLessons #KindnessInTheBoardroom #BeHumble #LifeLessons #CorporateInsights #WisdomWednesday #MidweekMotivation #EnableToEvolve

Ever felt like the only one in the room? For many from underrepresented backgrounds, this is a familiar challenge. The journey through cultural differences, the pressure to be a perfect representative, and the scarcity of relatable role models can affect our performance and career growth. While representation is slowly improving, we still have a long way to go. So, what’s the best course of action? Should we step back, or do we equip ourselves with the right insights, tools, and experiences to turn our uniqueness into a strength? Join us for our final circle of the summer, hosted by Batsi Kashora, CFA, MBA, Product Strategist at UBS with Kassie Siwo-Gasa, Head of Digital Marketing at Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), and Tongai Kunorubwe, CFA, Head of ESG, Fixed Income at T. Building strong client relationships is essential for success in any profession. Yet, there are instances when these connections evolve beyond mere business transactions. I have always deeply valued the transformation of my professional partnerships into meaningful friendships, where mutual respect and understanding thrive. Since meeting these two brilliant women almost a decade ago and amidst our collaborative endeavours in business and changing careers, we have shared experiences beyond the workplace. As we pursued our respective paths, our daughters have been on parallel journeys and are now sitting their GCSEs, a testament to the passage of time. This blend of collaboration and personal connection underscores the importance of authentic relationships in both our personal and professional lives. Moreover, these friendships open doors for support, collaboration, and mutual growth, invaluable during turbulent times. Last night, as we celebrated our decade-long journey, we were reminded of the value that genuine connections bring to every aspect of our lives. In every line of business, the joy of meaningful relationships transcends the confines of the workplace. These connections hold immense power, enriching our professional pursuits and bringing much-needed fulfilment to our personal lives. Here's to the next decade Jane Robinson and Andri Stephanou! Celebrating the Power of Professional Bonds! As a tech risk consultant, my daily grind revolves around serving up recommendations and insights steeped in the trifecta of people, process, and technology. Today, I'm putting the spotlight on the people pillar of this trifecta—a crucial yet sometimes overlooked aspect. Back in my college days, I was bombarded with warnings about the corporate world: "Colleagues may not be friends," they said. "Workplaces aren't for making buddies." Initially hesitant to forge connections, I kept my head down and focused on the tasks at hand. But through some stroke of serendipity, I found myself surrounded by an incredible circle of colleagues who transcended the confines of our 9-to-5 grind. Together, we've cultivated a bond that goes beyond mere workplace camaraderie. We share in each other's victories and support one another through the inevitable challenges that come our way. Sure, we have our fair share of disagreements, but we approach them with an open mind and a willingness to collaborate on finding innovative solutions. To my colleagues-turned-friends: You've been my rock, my sounding board, and my source of inspiration. I couldn't be more grateful for your unwavering support and camaraderie. Yet, as I pen down these words, I realize that a mere post could never encapsulate the depth of our connection or the countless moments of laughter, learning, and shared triumphs we've experienced together. Here's to celebrating the power of professional bonds and cherishing the invaluable connections we've forged along the way! 🥂 And now, I'd love to hear from you: How long did it take you to make friends at your workplace?
