Our entire curriculum, including all teaching resources, adheres to six core, guiding principles outlined and designed by our Head of Curriculum Design, Emma McCrea. Together, they summarise the important features and foundations of great curricula. Our model has two layers. The first relates to all subjects and describes the overarching principles and importance. The second is subject-specific principles reflecting the unique nature of subjects, as each one is different. The fourth of our overarching principles pertains to offering flexible models, which are designed to empower schools to use them in a way that fits their context and meets the needs of teachers and pupils. Whilst each subject curriculum can be used in its entirety, teachers will need to adapt our curricula to the requirements of their pupils. For example, a secondary school in Yorkshire may want to adapt a coastal unit to include Holderness as a local case study or a primary school in Brighton may want to add their own bespoke history unit on George IV to reflect the local history of the area. We explicitly map our curricula to the national curriculum to enable schools and teachers to more easily adapt them as they see fit. We also explicitly signpost sequencing of ‘threads’, or themes, so schools and teachers can ensure the coherence of their curricula as they adapt it. Our optional curricula models are designed to help schools decide whether they are right for their circumstances, and if so how to best use them. #teachingresources #Oak #OakNationalAcademy #education #ukedchat
