A week ago we were presenting the first bidirectional charging for electric snowmobiles together with Aurora Powertrains at the Nordic EV Summit. Our V2G DC charger and eSled combination aroused great interest and enthusiasm among visitors and the test drive was also a huge success ! 🙌 ”The cooperation with Aurora Powertrains has opened new possibilities to use our V2G -charging solution. The open-minded and determined way forward according to the new standards has enabled to build a working 15118-20 bidirectional charging process, which uses the central charging components in both eSled and Latinki 11...’’ states the CEO of InterControl Oy Ilkka Ilola. This real functional V2G -solution transfers eSled to a energy storage with the possibility to manage the electricity in the battery pack optimally. The shift from 400V to 800V in EV architecture marks a significant leap in EV technology. 🧐 With more automakers adopting 800V technology, the future of EV's includes: - Faster charging from high voltage stations. 🔌 - Reduced energy loss. ⚡ - Enhances battery range. 🔋 - Supports rapid charging. 💡 But what does this mean for existing EV infrastructure? 🤨 Currently, only 1.5% of DC fast chargers deployed in the US are capable of 800V and 3% in the EU. 😅 Upgrading or replacing existing charging stations to support 800V charging would be a substantial investment. Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy (ISE) has advanced vehicle-integrated PV (VIPV) technology by installing solar cells directly onto a standard sheet-metal car hood. The researchers placed a 115 W prototype array on the hood of a Volkswagen with a specialized lamination process. Fraunhofer ISE researchers are proposing to integrate solar cells into the hoods of cars, as an additional solution to use PV power devices in vehicles or electric vehicles. They said that this is the first attempt at using the standard sheet metal hood of a regular passenger car as a surface for solar power devices and explained that all previous VIPV technologies have been deployed on cars' roofs or sides. The team developed the inaugural system prototype on a Volkswagen vehicle. The 115 W solar array features PERC solar cells.
